Unusual Sound Problem

Hey guys, I just upgraded my computer and installed a new copy of windows XP along with the drivers for all my devices and after I installed my sound card driver I opened foobar to listen to some music and all of a sudden this horrible digitized screeching sound starts coming out. But the weird thing is that it usually just happens to foobar but not any games that I'm playing (war). But sometimes it happens to all my media, video, mp3s and video games.

I'm currently using a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card, and I have no idea how to fix this problem :\.

I have already tried reinstalling the OS a couple of times and that didn't do anything. I'm starting to think whether my upgrade had anything to do with it (I went from what I have in my sig to a 9800gtx+, 6000 X2, 2x2gb Corsair RAM).

Anyone ever encountered a problem like this before and if you have how did you resolve it?

That could be many things. Start with these:
1. Power down the PC, take the sound card out, put it back into the slot, push it in and lock with a screw, make sure the card is not in contact with any other parts of the PC except for the PCI slot and the rear bracket. Try a different PCI slot
2. Install:
-Latest bios (ver. 1002) and disable onboard audio in Bios
-chipset drivers (same link as above)
-Graphics driver
-Latest Audigy drivers (from July 2008)
-SP2 or SP3 for XP
3. Make sure you disabled onboard audio in Bios
4. If you OC the CPU- revert to stock values. (It seems you did not OC RAM)
5. Install foobar2K latest version: 0.9.5.6 - with no additional components

Have you disabled the onboard sound (if it has it) on your MB? I was also getting weird noises and disabling the onboard sound (which I forgot to do originally) cured this problem.

Oh nice thanks guys, I disabled the onboard sound, and I installed the latest drivers and it seems to work now. Although I don't know which one did it because I have never had a problem installing the drivers from the CD that I got over 5 years ago, and I never had to disable the onboard sound card before either so I really don't know why it started to act up like this.

But its all working now :)

Thanks!
