Well, confirmed. iBooks will refuse to open. Since I read PDFs and books in there, that's a deal breaker.

Another deal breaker that's been confirmed is the current release of iFile will crash on startup. Bummer.

Other than that, many others are reporting the same issues I've seen:

1) After you install anything, instead of a "Restart Device" prompt, it'll be a "Respring" prompt. After you choose to do so, only Newstand is shown. There is no icon for any other app, and the application switcher wouldn't show anything else either. Hold Home + Power to fix.

2) If you get a "Restart Device" prompt instead, it'll take almost half an hour for the device to restart, which makes it seem like it froze on the Apple logo. Don't hold Home + Power or you'll have to restore.

3) Randomly, icons on the springboard would just blank (white) out. The only known fix is to restart the device completely (Home + Power).

4) Aside from iFile, a dozen other jailbreak apps are also not working properly, or at all.

5) If you're on 5.0.1 with semi-tether, you'll have to remember to uninstall semi-tether first, or you'll have to enjoy restoring the phone.

6) Restoring the phone still won't fix any of the issues mentioned.

Looks like a mess of a jailbreak to me. It's not the first time a jailbreak has had issues, but it's a first that a tethered jailbreak has had so many issues, at least to me. I think I'll simply go back to good ol' 4.3.3.
Thankfully I'm not having any major problems. The iBooks issue is the only thing I've hit (and that is something they need to fix), otherwise every respring after the first one has worked correctly, as has rebooting the phone.

I too have noticed the package reload taking forever. Other than that all is smooth.

Same here, in fact I ended up downloading .deb files directly to my PC and then transferring them to my iPad through ifunbox (sick tool.) to have Cydia install them.

Everything is working well, except iBooks. The new version seems to detect jailbreaks on 5.0.1, and gives a "Configuration Error" every time I load it. I tried the "iBooksFix" from Cydia and still, no dice. I'm sticking to Stanza for now.

Hmm strange, I didn't have any of these issues. (except ibooks not working)

I read on macrumors that the new redsn0w 0.9.10b2 fixes iBooks. I'm gonna try it when I get home.
It looks like you can also just install version 1.0-3 or later of the Corona Untether 5.01 package in Cydia, which will replace the untether component with the fixed one.

No chance. "File systems", in the traditional sense, are dead. Give it 5-7 years to filter to most people and maybe 10-12 to get through to people like you.

I will happily call shens on this...people will continue to rely on saving their info and arranging it. Businesses will continue to have this control....PCs are going nowhere, and file systems are remaining right there with them.

As for why to jailbreak? SBSettings. Free wifi hotspot. Theming. Filebrowsing an SD Card. Changing default behavior (removing that bloody "this accessory is not compat" warning. I've amassed enough changes that using my iPad 2, I can get a little annoyed at some of the junk.

I tried it on my GFs daughters 3gs that has 6.15.00 ipad baseband and it borked it. Cydia packages are fubared and the unlock is not working on tmobile. It may be a cydia thing as the packages are not updating on my ip4 as well. Hopefully its just cydia getting slammed.

Cydia always gets slammed right after a new jailbreak, but especially on a new JB on a major new revision of iOS, since everyone has to reload all of their packages. Saurik knows about it, but there's not much he can do right now other than to wait until the demand subsides.

Thats what i figured.

Anyone know if the unlock on 3gs still works with this? I cant get to cydia/ultrasn0w to get the 1.2.5 unlock but I would like to know if it even works.

Well, I wiped the 3gs and started it all from scratch and can say that everything is working perfectly. It is jailbroked and unlocked and untethered. Awesomeness.

Great news.

I've also finally got it working with redsn0w 0.9.10b3. Also found a fix for iBooks here so all is good!

chpwn released Zephyr tweak, by the way. He's not too far off the mark when he calls it the best tweak ever! Now I hardly ever press the home button at all.

Yeah it works on everything BUT the two iOS devices I actually own that I'd actually want to jailbreak!

Technically not all. Developers have smartened up and started offering In-App Purchase instead.

When all apps use IAPs that are checked off against servers via a login mechanism, it would effectively kill off piracy unless pirates feel inclined to set up servers and proxies just to pirate a $0.99 IAP.

I saw a in-app cracking package too. It will give you all in-app purchases if they use some mechanism. It doesn't work on all apps. I didn't try it so I don't know. It is called iap cracker on the sinfuliphone repo.

No, you would have to re-store it to stock. They will void your warranty if they find out it is jailbroken.
Mine is used and the warranty is over, so I don't mind. I don't think I would have to take my iPhone to the Apple store anyway.

Everything is working OK for me on the JB. I was using the tethered before. The only thing that is broken is some of the repos in cydia still timeout due to everyone downloading it. I have everything installed though, so it doesn't matter. I did get the all icons gone and newstand only there thing after I first installed something in cydia, but I restarted the phone and everything is OK.

All of the news snippets for this don't mention the ATV2. Does this work for it? I think I'm still on 4.2.1!

I know about that one. It doesn't work against login-based in-app purchases that check your IAP against a server.

And Installous doesn't work right with iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak anyway, so developers can laugh for a while yet. That's also a warning to those who want to try it. It may cause... unforeseen problems.

Once you do a restore in itunes, there is absolutely no evidence of a jailbreak, so your warranty will be intact.

Just be sure to wipe device logs...

Most Apple employees are cool enough to overlook those, but you never know when you'll run into a grumpy one.

Jailbreaking is perfectly legal if that's what you're worried about. And like others have said, you can restore the device before you take it to the *geniuses* if it's covered by warranty.

Doesn't work for me. The app simply crashes when I do that. No error message, just crash to homescreen every time I run it.

Did anyone else have success with this fix?

The latest RedSn0w version works fine for me - I restored all JBed apps using Apt-Get, had iLock still there that was not ready for iOS5, had to work through a crash log to figure it out...and now it's fine. iBooks and all works fine.
