Hello there. I ahve an epox 8k3a+ and my processor(1800) recently died when my heatsink clip snapped off and chipped it. Anyways i looked up my board on the epox site and it said it supports up to a t-bred 2600+. The document that said this was about two years old and i emailed epox about it wondering if one of the bios updates that came out after the list was released added support for thortons/bartons or anything like that. They told me the list was correct and that was about it.

So here's my question. I think i can put a barton in my board and it should detect as unreconized processor. Is there any drawback/benefit to trying this? or should i just stick to a 2600 t-bred and be happy?

The mobile bartons have overclocking potential due to their lower initial voltage (1.35-1.45). But some boards have problems using higher number multipliers with these cpus. I could only use up to 11.5 on an aopen board (11.5 x 200) still a pretty good overclock. You won't get a 3 year warranty with any of them, and be prepared to spend some money on a decent heatsink if overclocking is your goal. The thermalright's work pretty well, and svc.com has a good selection. But newegg is still the place to get the best selection of mobiles. Right now they have a mobile 2400 for $62 refurbished. I'm not familiar with your epox board. If it doesn't have the capability to overclock at 200 fsb, I would save some money and use the xp2600.
