Unstoppable Gorg

The trailers are awesome.

Do they use the same music in the game as in the trailers?

Very pretty for sure. But it's still just a tower defense game. 🙁

My comment wasn't meant to be as a douche. I just meant that there are a ton of TD (tower defense) games already.

Not enough for me. Am always looking for a better TD game ...

Sadly the best ones are still found in warcraft III custom maps.

Apart from OrcsMustDie.. there really havnt been that many TD games, not any with decent budgets that end up being epic.

I mean if some custom map from warcraft III, is the top of the pile when it comes to TD games, that must mean a *real* game developer could make something 10x as epic.

Kinda like how Dota turned into stand alone games...

theres potential here, but not that many developers want to even try it.
The game future mark made,... looks kinda cheap and probably didnt cost them that much to put together, the concept while differnt doesnt look like fun (single player). That and it looks to simple... plant towers and spin them around... yeah... erh?

Legion TD of where 8 players make 2 teams, and face off each other in a TD team vs team, is still the best TD game out there.

Apparently you haven't played Defense Grid.

I just youtubed it 🙂 looks good.
Is there any online aspects to it or is it just single player?

It actually looks so good I would love to try a demo or maybe even buy if its cheap enough. Any demos for it?

Steam has a demo! I'm not sure how much the demo actually covers; but just FYI, the beginning levels are very linear and easy, then it ramps up in difficulty and soon the levels become much larger and non-linear, you have to build your own paths, etc, etc. You have to deal with both ground and air units too.

I can't find it right now... but there was a discussion on these forums a while back about TD games, and everyone kept mentioning Defense Grid as the best TD game they've ever played. There were also some people who said they didn't even know they liked TD games until they played Defense Grid.

There was another thread where someone was asking for TD recommendations, and they preemptively said "And no, don't say Defense Grid. I know it's an amazing game and I've already put 200+ hours into it." Hopefully that gives you an idea of how good it is.

It's singleplayer only. Maybe a disappointment for some, but really, the game was designed for singleplayer, and that's what it excels at. No need for multiplayer IMO.

For an indie game the production values are fantastic. It has very detailed, fleshed out graphics, great sound, and great voicework. It's $9.99 on Steam, which isn't a bad price for one of my favorite games ever. If you haven't played it yet then you're in for a real treat. I think it got an award for best indie game of the year or something.

If you're into TD games, get Kingdom Rush for the iPad... It's amazing (you can play browser version for free on PC)

I've yet to try Unstoppable Gorg (annoying name!), but I'm thinking of buying it.

I just picked up Unstoppable Gorg the other day, but have only had a chance to play a few levels so far.

My impressions thus far:
- I love the cheesy retro-50's sci-fi movie videos between the levels.
- This game has a fairly different "spin" on tower defense:
- The path the enemies follow is plotted out for you, but changes several times during the course of the level, possibly with multiple paths running at the same time. There doesn't seem to be any way to block or reshape the enemy paths.
- You can only place your "towers" (satellites) in the relatively few slot positions offered. I don't think I've seen more than 6 or so slots on a level yet, after 4 or so levels.
- You need to use at least two of your few slots for a money generator (to provide money, killing enemies doesn't seem to give enough on its own) and a research generator (used to earn upgrade tokens)
- The enemies attack and damage your satellites, so you need to pay money to keep them repaired.
- You can (and must) rotate the rings of satellites to reposition them to compensate for the changing paths.
- You can even constantly rotate the rings to keep a batch of enemies within the rather short range of a single turret. I found this necessary to do at a few points, but is more micromanagement than I'd prefer to deal with.

Overall, it's not the same 'ol tower defense, which is good, but the way it seems to be heading after my first few levels of play looks like it will be quite micromanagement oriented, constantly rotating the rings trying to keep your weapons in range and your vulnerable support satellites and damaged weapon satellites out of range. I haven't played that far along, so I don't know for sure that is how it will always be, but I prefer the more traditional attrition to the enemy by multple turrets over the course of the path, rather than trying to shift the turrets around to focus on specific ones.

About Defense Grid: that is my favorite TD game. From what I've played so far, Gorg is attractive and interesting, but is unlikely to replace Defense Grid as my favorite.

Totally agree with you. Defense Grid will always be the best, in my mind... But Gorg is a good romp.

Defense Grid was awesome, even some story to go along with it. Sure it was fluff, but better than nothing! Bringing context to a level is always a good thing.
