First of all below is my current configuration:

AMD Phenom X4 9600
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H (AMD 780G chipset)
G.Skill PC 1066 DDR2 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB)
Patriot 32GB SSD

So I put them together and fired them up. For some reason the BIOS auto-detected RAM as PC 800 instead of PC 1066. So I manually changed the multiplier to x5.33 and the system correctly recognized it as PC 1066.

But, as Windows was being installed it encountered the BSOD. It was something about core clock. OK, that was odd, I thought and proceeded to try it again. But the 2nd attempt also failed.

So I reverted RAM setting back to auto and the system now recognizes RAM as PC 800 instead of PC 1066. At least Windows installed w/o a problem and the system has been stable since.

I thought Phenom X4 9600 was supposed to support PC 1066 since it's AM2+? What's the problem here?

Also, I would like to MODERATELY overclock my CPU. How would you do it? I'm not smart enough to figure out the voltage settings or the multipliers. Has any of you were able to successfully overclock the similar setup? If you could please help me out I'd appreciate it very much.

Thanks!

J
