as it says when i oc the core to over 540 i get a vpu recovery from it crashing... its not temp related because any time itry this it never makes it over 42* according to ATITool... i also have a Arctic Cooling AtiSilencer5 rev.2 on it. the mem ocd to over 600 w/ no problems... even on stock cooler. i just removed the power adapter that came w/ the sapphire card and used the one that came w/ a mobo tha ti got and it didnt change anything... the first one only had one of the two 12v pins and 2 of the 3 grounds but that seems to have made no differnce. any suggestions would be helpful... oh and im running 5.10
 
It will only overclock as fast as the slowest pipeline. My Sapphire GTO with 12pipes gets to 625Mhz .. using that same VGA Silencer ?? I guess my slowest pipeline can tdo 625Mhz .. your slowest does 535Mhz ? bad luck that?s all. ?
 
VPU recover isn't very reliable, and has a tendency to kick in a bit early... However, it could also be that you simply don't have a very good overclocker... I see you already unlocked the extra 4 pipelines, with those unlocked, it's known that the overclocking capacities are less than with 12 pipes...

videoclone's GTO still has twelve too, and is able to hit much higher speeds... But I do not really know what you're complaining about, you have a full-fledged X850XT-PE... Okay, the core's 5MHz lower, but the mem's 25MHz higher... Fast enough I'd say... 😉
 
Exactly, my GTO2 runs at 520:600 stable. If I go to 530 core it just locks up. So I think you've hit the limit of the card at least without heavy mods.

Surprisingly, my card locks up in game when I underclock it to 500 or 510 core with 570/580 mem but is completely stable at 520 core 600 mem.
 
Im not really complaining about it i was just wondering and i didnt think about the card only being able to go as fast as the slowest pipeline... makes sence tho. and ive started getting artifacts in UT2k4 but NOT in FEAR.... doesnt make since to me but hey... whatever.

the cpu overclock was more of a joke than anything... i got cheapo memory so i dont wanna crank the FSB much more....

i might do the bios flash once i get my Antec P180.... hopefully itll be here this week...
