Unstable 2D clocks on HD5970

I have this Sapphire piece of crap for about 2 years.

Recently after a few CCC updates (going from 11.8-9 or so) I have started experiencing those 2d flickering mosaic tiles and squares all over the screen when moving my mouse and using pc after a few hours. Things like switching windows, watching videos, browsing, alt-tabbing etc

The only thing that fixes it is lcd overdrive option which disables aero on win7.

I need to adjust clocks for core/memory through profiling on my hd5970. does anyone have figures handy for plugging in and options that need to be changed?

Win7 X64 ultimate
CCC 12.2

Thanks!

P.S. My last ATI card period! No more of this headache. They should be sued.

You cant sue a company cause your card went bad.....
Sapphire happens to be one of the best and leading AMD 3rd party manufacturers. What your saying is ridicoulous.

Just RMA the card......

If it's these drivers that caused it, you could try different drivers. No 2 setups are identical, nor can all possible hardware/software combinations be accounted for. It could just be a conflict between the new drivers and your system. Try other drivers.

Here is the same issue - definitely drivers. This is not a hardware problems but results due incorrect idle clock settings for core/memory on the second gpu in 5970.

It's really a shame because it only started happening after a number of later ccc releases 11.8+

What i really need is to prevent the clocks on the second gpu from going too low and causing this artifacting... I need to make a profile and put proper values in there.

I know you can't sue the company so easily, but sometimes i just want to hammer those developers' heads in for such poor driver management. Never had issues with nvidia...

Hmm, I might stay away from the 12.2s then, im gonna take your word for it.
Never had a problem before with any catalyst drivers but I dont want to risk it.
HAvent been able to touch my own gaming rig in a few months. So I think im gonna install the 12.4 previews.

12.2 should be fine technically. The problem in the post was with 11.2 drivers, while I started having it after 11.8 or so, but didn't really pay attention because it was fairly minor artifacting in 2d. After 12.2 it is completely horrible and I have to run with lcd overdrive and disabled aero just to get my work done in regular windows applications.

All i need is a sure-fire way to input the core/memory values into a a new ccc profile. I'll definitely upgrade to the newer ones as soon as they are released on amd site.

Last drivers that I did use in fact were the 12.2 previews in december I think and didnt have any problems. BF3 ran pretty sweet with them too. And I liked the fact that they increased the OC limit in CCC.
Dling the 12.3 and 12.4 beta now. Will install tomorrow.
Lets see how they do.

Know your pain, I had a sapphire 5970 and had all sorts of issues with it later in its life resulting in it artefacting constantly with stock cooling at stock speeds, binned it for a 580 and never looked back.

All I can say is that I'm very impatiently waiting for gtx680 and have a place in the garbage bin for all future ati/amd products).

P.S. Oh yeah, I've learned to live with the infamous 5970 fan rattle which I had as well...

You shouldn't say things like that around here or all the AMD fanboys will rise like zombies and discredit such claims about AMD drivers.

I really wish I could say something different about ati after having first-hand experience with their amazing products:)

I never overclocked the card as it was more than enough for me - guess it overclocked itself)

Almost every time I had to remove / upgrade catalyst drivers I had to press reset button as the screen went black without going back to windows during display driver installation (many folks had that too). It generally worked flawlessly on the 2nd try though - cudos to ATI:)

I'm more concerned with bricking my ssds / losing data during those "resets" than anything else. Proper backups are in order, but why should I damage my hardware because some dimwits can't program their damn drivers.
