Unsigned Driver on Windows 8.1 x64 issues - Item keeps disconnecting

Long story short, I've recently picked up DJing as a side gig.

I purchased an inexpensive USB adapter to control my lights. The drivers available for it are unsigned.

Two things:

1. Is there an easy way to "sign" them so I don't have to reboot into "safe" mode or whatever to use the device every time?
2. Or -- Is there a way to disable the verification?

Biggest issue:

When on Windows 8.1, the device disconnects itself every 30-40 seconds or so (I hear the "USB unplug" sound) then reconnects itself maybe 5 seconds later. I have a desktop with Windows 7 x64 and don't have this issue at all. And I can't figure out why.

You can't sign the drivers without being the author (at least, MS won't accept your application). The way to disable verification is to reboot your machine in safe mode like you have been doing. However, you should only need to install the driver once, and then you can use it in normal mode.

As for the disconnecting issue, I would bet that is a physical connection problem. Try using a different USB port on your laptop.

When I reboot normal though, it doesn't work. Says the driver is disabled. I'll upload a screen shot.

Tried all three USB ports on my laptop

The "problem", is not purchasing a quality item in the first place, rather, trying to make do with some made-in-China crap with unsigned drivers.

Well it works perfectly fine on my windows 7 machine. Hard to justify spending $100 on am item that does the same thing as a $22 one.

I'll try that hack and report back.

Still didn't work --- good news is that it worked on my Windows 8.1 x86 tablet just fine.

Trying to figure out why it doesn't work on my laptop though....

Seems sparatic. Sometimes disconnecting after 10 seconds, other times going for 30-40 seconds

Just an FYI. The only reason why a diver is not signed is because the company is either too poor or too lazy to get it certified by Microsoft. Getting things signed that it works and is designed to work with OS version XXX can cost over $200,000 at times.
