Unsealed containers on airlines

I am going to be flying soon and have some opened/unsealed liquids that I will be transporting in my checked baggage. I'm pretty sure that baggage compartments are not pressurized but am not 100% sure. Does anyone know if the unsealed containers will break or crack due to the pressure differential?

luggage compartments are pressurized to the equivalent pressure of 8000 feet of altitude, same as the cabin. sometimes my shampoo bottles will leak when flying from a sea-level airport, so I always put them in their own plastic bag.

They will almost definitely leak, especially if the bottle/container is more than 80% full... I had a suitcase full of hair gel a long time ago, and evern since have put anything liquid into ziploc freezer bags...

and to answer your question, yes they are pressurized...

If possible squeeze some of the air out beforehand (if the container has solid walls, this will obviously not work). That will reduce swelling and therefore reduce the odds of a leak. Put in a plastic bag (again, squeeze air out), close plastic bag, and hope.

Luggage compartments are pressurized...they put animals and stuff down there. Besides, it is much easier, structurally speaking, to pressurize a tube (the entire plane) than a half-tube (the passenger compartment).

However, it's only pressurized to 5,000 feet or whatever, so there's still enough of a differential to let stuff leak.

There is also an unpressurized, non-sealed compartment. Remember that dog or cat they accidentally put in there and froze the thing to death!
