Hey,

I'm wondering if I unscrew the antenna on a PCI Wireless adapter, will it work? There's um.. reasons behind this.

No, you cannot resell the antennas for sex toys! :Q

ROFL. 😛. Sketchy.
It's becuase my parents .. erm... don't want me on the internet, and this is a way to get on (well, duh they'll notice that huge antenna).

Any solutions?

you can get USB adapters that look just like thumbdrives too, just tell them you got a thumbdrive instead of having to use floppy disks and you can unplug it when your not on it so they can't even check up on you to make sure you don't have internet.

Yeah, but they feed and clothe you. Following the rules is kinda required.

Of course, if they let you have a computer in your bed room they're making a huge mistake.

DOH! Well, I'm not exactly a "bad" kid if you know what I mean. And it's not like they don't have parental controls on 24/7 - when I had internet in my room, they had everything logged - EVERYTHING. That should clarify some of your initial 'doubts'.
The main reason I want internet in my room is:

Project researching is so much easier. Tthe computer I'm on simply does not have the space, nor the resources for Word. Not kidding at all. We DO have Windows XP on it, and roughly 500MB remaining - this computer shipped with windows 95, just to let you know.

It's a hassle to go upstairs and downstairs just to get some fact (or in a recent case: pictures for a powerpoint presentation).

Another reason is simply to play games online. I mean come on, I spent $1500 on a rig... just to use Word and type up reports?

Again, I understand how you feel about this, but please don't get me wrong. Yes, there have been times I've done stuff that I'm not supposed to - I realize that. Then again, the filters prevent me from doing anything anyways.

When I was a youngun, I always had unrestricted access in my room, and I turned out fine. Now it's time to go kill some more of my neighbors dogs....

I'd do what the guy above said...you could install say, a USB2 card or something instead of an internal wireless card. Then use the internal headers and hook up a wireless USB card to the headers and run the cabling along the inside the tower and mount with duct tape.

Then you could enable/disable the card at will through the hardware manager. If your motherboard supports it, you could even disable the IRQ/PCI slot of the USB card so it would not appear at all in Windows. (disabling the card merely puts a nice X on the hardware list in the device manager)

No external wires at all, no flashing lights/LEDs...pretty stealth!

Great idea! Time to get a job + money. Wireless card: $50, USB Card: $20. I got a $50 bestbuy card. Just time to buy a $20 wireless card. Thanks for the suggestions.
