I am getting a window/message 'Unsafe Removal of Device' on Win 2K after booting up and 10-20 mins of operations on the Lite-On-LTR-32123S internal CD-RW drive. Once I click OK the device is no longer visible or the drive letter is not recognized.

The drivers are latest and greatest and it works fine when it is recognized.

Is this a problem with the voltage from Power Supply by anychance. The Power supply is Allied 400W ATX400P4. It is an Athlon XP machine. The MOBO is ASUS A7V333 and the Probe utility reads 13.5 V. Is this high voltage triggering the CD-RW drive to switch off?

Also the Probe Utility does not read the speed of the CPU fan (I made sure the fan is working and the cable is connected. )

There is a problem with the monitor - it starts flickering at times...the video card is ATI Radeon 8500 LE OEM from Sapphire. I always use 75Hz as the refresh rate. The flickering is not very heavy, but enough to give you eye strain. Is this a monitor issue (Sylvania F97 - 19inch) or something else? Any idea? FYI, The drivers are latest and greatest.

Hmmm....I just have some educated guesses, nothing more for you...sorry.

The voltages read by the software/bios can be inaccurate. If possible, hook a volt-meter to the power connector leading to your CD-Rom and check actual voltage.

Also, the monitor flickering could be a result of some motherboard voltage issues, and the resulting power to the video card is causing the intermittent flickering. If possible, hook another monitor up...still flickers? suspect video card or power source.

Far as the CD-rom goes, it is possible that if your MB or PS voltages are not stable, it could drop the device, causing your unsafe removal message.

Try removing all unecessary devices from your computer and see if the problem still persists. (sound, ethernet, extra HD's or CD-roms).

Let us know what you find out....and good luck!

I have recieved this message before when I was running 2000. It said unsafe removal of hard drive. I ran the diagnostic for the drive that said was removed and it was bad. I had to RMA it.
