I cant get xp to recognize my Liteon CDRW. It shows up in device manager and thats it. Nothing in windows explorer, nothing by using run x: (x=e-z). I have switched drives, jumpers, uninstalled the device and added it again, still nothing. It only gets recognized in the bios and in device manager. I have also ran virus scan. I am pretty sure I have some setting on the os wrong becasue I have never had a drive just not be recognized. Anything else I should try before calling and w a i t i n g for an rma?

No it didnt work in dos. Is cd support included in a xp dos disk or should I try again with a 98 start up disk?

You may already have it installed, but try the cdrw patch on windows update and see if that helps.

You might have to delete the controller that the cdrw is on in device manager and let windows find it again, hopefully also finding the cdrw that is on it.

You didn't say how the cdrw was attached to your computer, but RAID controllers sometimes don't like cd/r/w drives attached on them.

Good luck with it.

Will

EDIT: make sure that your bios is set correctly to see your cdrw.

If it doesn't work in DOS, then it won't work inside the OS.
Check the cables and jumpers.
Try it as a slave drive to your HDD.

has this drive ever worked before? if it doesnt work in dos, then sounds like the drive is broken somewhat, since xp can still see it in device manager but it doesnt show up in my computer.
see if you have another ide cable and double check all the connections, and bios setup again

good luck

Try the Windows XP CD-RW patch, I had to use it for Nero to see my old Teac 4x4x32 CD-RW

I had the cdrw patch installed, and I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, still the same results.

The cdrw is the master on the secondary drive port.

Cable and jumpers are ok. I dont think theres is a way to get my cable to stretch long enough to get it on the first drive cable.

The drive has only burned a cd, which is bootable in the other drive, but other that that it cant read or be seen by windows. I hooked up a new cable, still no results. I burned an image with CloneCD that seems to be the only thing to read the drive so far with this messege "Lite-On LTR-32123S XS07(Cdrom0)"

BTW I totally screwed up my BIOS when I tried to update it, I would have replied sooner if I could have. I just got it fixed today.
