I've spent some time clocking my GTSPro, coolbits after reading a great article

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/det3_overclocking/

but UT shows really lousy Timedemostats (around 35 average) sometimes, and great (60+) sometimes. why the difference. These times when it shows the low marks, it doesn't seem to differ if I change to 16bit color instead of 32. ?????

You should use a proper benchmarking level of UT's.

You cant go on playing a level again and again with different settings as things dont happen exactly the same way.

To benchmark properly in UT, firstly get this UT benchmarking file.
I dont know where to place the file exactly in the UnrealTournament directory, but I know that placing it in the 'system' and 'maps' subdirectories work.
Once in UT, to benchmark follow these instructions exactly otherwise it wont work:
1)Start a Practice session, not important what map or type, just get into game.
2)Once at level start screen (dont actually need to start the level - once it says 'waiting for ready signal, press fire' is good enough) bring down the console (usually using the ' key).
3)Once console is there, type:
timedemo 1 [Enter]
demoplay utbench noframecap timebased [Enter]

(note [Enter] means press enter ;))

Once you press Enter the 2nd time UT will start benchmarking. When it finishes it goes to a blank screen, but dont worry, you can check your results by bringing down the console. It will give a minimum, maximum, and average fps count.

Hope this helps.

Min 26.59
Max 54.88
Avg 38,92

1024x768, High settings, 32bit color and all support for sound enabled. Is this normal for my rig, feels kinda weak...

Best thing to do is compare it to a similar system. Anandtech reviews I think use a different demo level for the stats so you cant do a direct comparison.

IIRC, UT bench is a pretty rough benchmark

go to Rev's site and download his UT demo with a 1 vs. 1 botmatch. It'll give you a point of comparison for a system

UTBench is majorly CPU-limited

also, are you running in D3d or OGL, and are you using the S3TC compressed textures?

I run in D3d and no, don't use the compressed texture.
Maybe I should do Q3 to see what the Video card does...

Thanks for the UTbench.

RoboTECH,

Did you link a DIFFERENT UT benchmark in your last post?

All test I've seen of the card shows high bench, my rig ain't that bad, so I guess I'm kinda surprised and dissapointed...

hovenas, using the utbench demo, that sounds about right for your rig. Only way to find out exactly is to test on an identical set-up.

If you really want a direct comparison then try to get the demo anandtech uses, ie. this file

RoboTech linked to the site earlier

Thanx, will use thunder to get a more precise bearing on what my efforts have resulted in.

Strange, strange. It seems like I get different framerates for different times I start the computer. It seems like coolbits kicks in on about 50% of the time...
