I still play Q3. That game is awesome. Why would someone think it was horrid? Single player Q3 is horrid, sure, but online Q3 CTF.....there is nothing finer. I did just get UT2004 the other day and it does look quite good...it also looks and feels like a 2004 version of Q3...that's probably why I like it.

On another note...is CSS a noob shooter? I've tried to play that since back when the original came out....and I've always hated it. Seems to me like there's so much less skill involved in that game vs Quake 3 or Unreal. 3 shots and you're dead, then you wait for 5 minutes to play again...<yawn. More like Counter Sleep. I think I'll start a new thread for that one....

Compared to the one-shot railguns and 2 shot rocket launchers? BTW, it's can be anything between 1 shot and kill 3 people to 6 shot and kill no one, CS is about skill while Quake is not. Quake is 10x easier and not nearly as good as CS:S.

total blasphemy.. quake 1 CTF is the best multiplayer ever. period. CSS is new graphics *wow* like we haven't played the levels before.

UT all the way for me, much better multiplayer.

There wouldn't be an Unreal without the success of Quake's "lesser" multiplayer.

Im sure, but there wouldnt be a quake without a doom, and there wouldnt be a doom without previous gaming titles.

Its like saying that ferarri would not exist without the model T. That may be true, but I think the ferrari has a lot better looks and performance. Not to mention being more fun.

I've never liked the physics in the Unreal games, it seemed too cartoony to me - also the shinyness/colorfulness of everything was distracting.

Even though quake's graphics weren't as good the gameplay was more fun. Not much can beat the original Team Fortress 2Fort4 - especially with the bugs.

It sounds like there are a few people here who never played Quake online. The Ferrari/Model T analogy is terrible and only serves your puspose. A realistic analogy would be comparing a Testarosa to a F355. Personally I would take the Testarossa just like I would take Quake, so deal.

The quake movement engine handles like a racecar.

I posted this in another thread...

We may all argue about which is better, Unreal or Quake but we all agree who the pussy is: CS.

Can I get an amen?

One word, movement. CS:S has the worst movement ever. When you get hit you move even slower. It's why it was never even included in this thread. Some people like games where you actually have to do more than just aim and hide around corners.

CS:S is move -> stand -> shoot -> move
Quake and Unreal is move around and shoot. It's just different kind of gameplay. Both fun IMHO, but difficult to be good in both types.

The weapons in unreal always gave it the edge for me. They gave you fun and innovative ways to kill and mutilate your friends. Quake seems to play better, but the weapons are not as interesting.

Quake 2 was an awesome game and I spent a *lot* of time playing DM, even on dial-up.

The original UT, to me, was the height of multi-player perfection. I still play it against friends and bots. It never gets old.

Unreal Tounrey was quite fun. Quake just seemed like a slight evolution from the Doom system: rockets, shotguns and chain guns. By the time I got into quake that formula was rather tired. The only reason I bought quake was because of the great mods. As a base game, it sucked IMO. UT's goofball weapons really sold me. The shock rifle, the multiload rocket launcher, the teleporter gun, etc were all loads of fun. Quake always seemed so gritty and uninteresting.
