For those who want to play some good old fashioned UT99 capture-the-flag, the greatest online multiplayer FPS of all time, there's a server that hosts a group of friends every (Frag) Friday and (Smackdown) Saturday night! Come join the Steam UT99 Revival group for more information.

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/UT99-Revival

The server runs higher speed regular weapons CTF with relics and often fills to 14 players on Friday and Saturday nights. If it becomes popular enough, maybe we can expand activity to other nights. (I don't own the server or manage it at all, I just love UT99.)

Bump for an obvious great time.

I have my hands full of a backlog of console games so I probably won't be joining the fray anytime soon but UT99 will always hold a special place in my heart.

If you didn't have friends lug their heavy computers and CRT monitors over to someone's house and frag on UT all night through a LAN setup, you missed a generation of social gaming.

Absolutely true. Those were the golden days. That kind of social gaming was new, exciting and beyond fun. I will be clicking that link above and might get into some of that good old UT action.

EDIT: Where can I get UT99?

Haha, only guy in the neighborhood with an 8-port switch, huh?

Where can I get UT99?

Unless you want to be bound by STEAM DRM (UT99 is pretty fun to play in a LAN setup so Valve's always-kinda-have-to-be-online model isn't great for such an old game) grab it here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=all

(Used is only way to go for CD media...unless you want a collector's item and you'd be a disservice in opening it.)

For those of you who want to add another great game to your STEAM library and have it for download immediately when you go through a system reinstall or such, grab it here:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/13240/

It's $9.99.

For the rest of you scoundrels...

UT99 doesn't use a CD key.

I'd check on eBay for a copy of UT99. (This game should be available as a free public download now, IMHO.)

I had a great time last night. The server filled to 14 players and I capture many flags including a game winner in a map that ended 6-5.

For those who don't want to pirate it, here's a link to an eBay search. Note that the one you want is "Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition". I'm amazed at how well a 13 year old game is maintaining its price on eBay.

Another option would be the Unreal Anthology which includes UT 2004 (which people still play today, good for the game Onslaught):

Get the anthology, its cheaper and also easier cuz its everything on a single DVD. One big install and you are done.

How in the world do you not know about GOG.com? It's completely DRM-free, digital, and it's on sale for half off right now ($5). Better than either Steam or Amazon.

I guess I should say that I never intended for anyone to actually go out there and buy this game--honestly--there isn't much activity left for it in online multiplayer. For that reason I'm not sure it's worth purchasing at this point. What I wanted to do was to advertise one of those few times and places where you can still find some activity (in the hopes that maybe we could increase the times when there is activity).
