A tweet from Mark Rein, Vice President and Co-Founder of Epic Games, reads: "I love #UnrealTournament - So excited for the comeback! More next week!" Rein confirmed the news again, saying "Yes UT coming back!" when a fan asked for clarification.

Paul Meegan, VP of Product Development at Epic, followed Rein's tweet with information on when we'll know more: "UE4 Dev Community + Epic. The future of Unreal Tournament. Tune in to Twitch.tv/UnrealEngine Thursday at 2pm ET."

This needs to make it to the Xbox One, along with the PC. However, I'd rather it come out properly and not hampered by a console, even if it means I can't play it on the console I like. I loved the first Unreal Championship on the first Xbox, and I was thoroughly disappointed that neither UT3 nor Quake 4 got any kind of following on the 360, so I'm all for another shot at it. If it takes a PC-only release for it to be great, I'll play it on PC.

UT3 really lowers my expectations, if it's a return to form a la UT2k4 I will be all about it, just can't hope for that level of quality and skill again though.

UT3 was quite the letdown.

i'll hope it doesn't suck, even though i really don't play FPS much anymore. too old and slow.

Why should Xbox get any kind of following..let the Xbox people cry this time!

1. I grew up watching my dad play this, and started online console gaming with this franchise, so I'd love it.

2. Console shooters seem like the biggest cash cow of the bunch right now (maybe DotA out-earns CoD? IDK). Regardless, it's a market worth trying to make money from, especially with the way Epic has sold Gears, doesn't really have a game franchise to market beyond Unreal right now, and the fact that a lot of major developers are seemingly making their own engines, rather than paying for the Unreal Engine.

It probably wouldn't do well, but I wish it would. I'm never one to shout for exclusivity for ANY platform, even if it benefits me (I'd rather see consoles die and all games be on PC, in a perfect world, and this is as a looooong-time console gamer).

Praise the lord if another Unreal Tournament is released, UT3 to me honestly was such a blast but I know i'm the minority here on this. Second game I ever purchased for pc besides BF2 and god only knows the hours I spent playing it.

Something tells me this is hype for a game that may never be, hope not but I feel UT3 was the last of a dying breed. Man do I miss the days of a simple shoot them up game.

My only worry is that they'll put it on consoles and try to incorporate some aspects that console shooters use... mainly player levels. It's pretty safe to say that I would be disappointed if UT switched to garbage like "load outs" and having to level up to unlock certain guns.

What would be interesting is if they merged Unreal and Unreal Tournament together. Unreal was the original game from Epic, which was just a single player game. Unreal Tournament came out a little bit later. Single + Multi is not common in arena shooters, but that's a "console thing" that I might not mind coming to Unreal Tournament.

UT3 isn't a terrible game. The problem is that it isn't as good as UT or UT2K4. We don't speak of UT2K3. :p

Also, have you considered checking out Loadout? It's an arena FPS with 'tude!

Downloading Loadout now, thanks for the heads up. I don't know how this one got by me.

I personally preferred UT3 over 2K3/2K4; the latter's combat and guns just felt off.

Ditto. UT3 is so much better than 2K4 for DM, which is where all the fun is for me. Of course any new UT will likely just be a mess anyway, so I have no real interest in this tease.

i loved the original UT; I played the demo so much and loved how they gave several map options. Never got the full game though because I had no income at the time :)

UT2k3 was fun once i got used to the different play style, but still didn't carry the magic of the original UT for me.

If they can renail the original feel of the game, I'll buy it simply to pay back for the several hundreds of hours I played the demo.

See, I love Unreal because of my time on Xbox with it. It's were I started playing on Xbox LIVE (Unreal Championship), and I grew up watching my dad play it on PC. However, I think I started on Quake III Team Arena before that, watching my dad play the Urban Terror mod, then trying it out myself as well. I loved that, and I really wish Quake would come back. Urban Terror (which is a standalone game you can DL now) was just so cool because it had things like breath relative to health and bleeding, meaning you might need to bandage yourself when you got shot. I mean, it's 2014, and games don't really have something that awesome.

I used to go 1vs1 with people in UT online with Kali (whoah flashback). i loved that game. They have had a scoreboard to compare.
