I wish they would come out and just release UT99-GOTY as a free public download. It would be a great way to get some publicity for the franchise and to market the series to new people. FYI, UT3 feels like UT99-2 if you can get to the actual game play and put up with the user interface and server browser. When the UT3 Demo first came out, that's what the UT99 community was saying.
I agree that UT99 still has the best game play, but if you're in North America, where the heck do you go to find populated servers online, at least for regular weapons CTF? Haley's all-CTF-Face Hot House? The 125 speed FOCR server?
I'm still hoping that UT3 takes off. I still play UT99 CTF pug matches with my UT99 friends, but UT3 is where the action will be in the future. If anyone wants to play the game the way it should be played--as part of a (spontaneously) organized team and with assigned positions and teamwork, come play pickup games (PUG) matches! Here's where to find them (and the UT99 and UT3 communities) on IRC:
SERVER: irc.GameRadius.net
CHANNELS:
#speedpug (125 speed regular weapons UT99 CTF)
#ut3ctf (regular weapons UT3 CTF)
#ut3tdm (regular weapons Team Deathmatch)
You play whenever you feel like it. Just come to the channel and .join up! When it fills to 10 people (or 8 for TDM) two people become captains and draft the other 8 players, gym class style. Then everyone gets on a Teamspeak2 server (free download --
http://www.GoTeamspeak.com ) for voice comm and joins the gaming server to play a best of three maps match. It's the closest thing to playing a clan match without being in a clan and without having to adhere to advanced scheduling and the teams are often balanced, leading to intense, tight matches! Note that there are several other PUG match channels on Gameradius, too.
