I have been playing UT3 since a few 4 months ago... and it rocks.. but there is a few problems with it... and a fix isnt really clear at all....

First the OpenAL doesnst work well with X-Fi card with Xram... they start doing some strange beeps and freezing the computer... it makes no diference to me to have it off because I am the headphone like player.. but some people say that is ruining their game with no surround sound support...

Anti Alias... The game doesnt have any anti alias setting ingame.... which kinda suck because setting it up in the control panel of the video card freeze the game on loading, tell me a work around to enable AA if you know it plz...

and the last one is the world of detail... the game get slowed down with world of detail up to 5.... very slow it gets even with good computer... if you take it reduce the world detail down to 2 the game runs so smooth.. and the diference is almost noone ... well.. i dont see anyone ok...

after turning the world detail down, OpenAL off... and ignore the Jagged edges.. UT3 rocks the house...

The only 'fix' for UT3 problems, is to stop playing it because it's a POS.

great answers. UT3 is a fun game it's too bad people like you two who I'm sure either played it when it first came out and gave up over some of the bugs it had before the 1.1 patch was released or are straight up noobs have to give it such a bad name. I'm guessing the noob part is the most likely reason from your attitudes.

As for the first issue, for whatever reason the X-fi cards w/Xram all do that. It is most likely the fault of Creative because their drivers have always been flaky. I may have seen a fix in the official epic UT3 forum so if you haven't try checking there.

I don't know about AA but I think the game looks fine without it on my system, as for your poor performance though it must be something to do with the driver you are using or a problem with crossfire because on my 9600gt I am able to run it on 5/5 at a constant 60 fps most of the time.

please buddy. i came from the ut2004 community. we played that thing pretty much up until the last couple months. and we still play from time to time. so dont even go there. if I or my clan wanted to get good at ut3 we would. we just wouldnt accept that piece of garbage they handed us. we know what good games are. ut99 and ut2k4 are great games, why folllow up with console puke.. as far as the fix...google or yahoo are your friends.

Like what? Dodge-jump? That wasn't in UT99. And what about the actual gameplay makes you think consoles had anything to do with it?

UT3 is a good game. It's just not the type of game that's popular right now. People like shitty shooters like Halo 3 and MMO's.

UT2k4 was total garbage compared to UT99. While Epic can't do a proper UI for their life, at least they brought back the core gameplay of UT99 by removing dodge jumps and increasing weapon damage.

I still play UT99 regularly as I have for the past 8 years, along with UT3 from time to time.

actually I wasted more time playing UT2K4 than I'd want to admit to. Didn't get to play the original very much though.

UT3 suffered from a number of problems and was far, far below UT99 and UT 2004 standards in several areas:

Featureless and almost non-functional server browser at the time of release. Heck, you couldn't even get Favorites to work right until the last patch. That's almost unforgivable.

Horrible, consolized user interface. It's clunky and slow and offers few settings tweaking options, etc.

The game was released as a buggy beta.

The Demo was reflected all of this.

The game was released at a strategically awful time when other big titles were coming out.

Mapvote menu/function is inferior to what UT 2004 had.

Not possible to set keybinds for communication comments and taunts.

Game lacks a built-in IRC browser.

The use of Gamespy is awful and sometimes people can't log in and thus can't play it online.

-----

I'm sure that other folks could easily add to this list. The basic game play itself is fine, it's just everything around it that's awful and it put a very, very sour taste in my mouth. I feel badly about having spent $57 (after taxes) on the Collector's Edition of this game, not merely because the game is a turkey, but because I'm not sure I want to support Epic Games anymore, especially after the way people have been treated on their discussion forums and the attitude they seem to be displaying towards their formerly-loyal UT community.

Well WhipperSnapper, all those things are nothing time and patches can't heal.

I'm more interested to see what UT veterans think has changed in terms of core mechanics and general gameplay.
