For those of you who enjoyed the original Unreal Tournament (1999) years ago and want to play it again but can't find any regular weapons capture-the-flag servers that run custom maps (and not just CTF-Face), I have good news! This game is coming back and I have found some regularly populated regular weapons custom map CTF servers! Here's a list of some of those servers. Let's bring this awesome athletic cybersport back to life!

Xoldog 400 Fun Server: This is a European server and the best times to play are from 2 pm to 6 pm U.S. EST. It regularly fills to between 10-14 people and it runs custom maps. Each week players can vote to have two maps removed from the server and vote to have two new ones added. This server also has a custom mod that chooses the next map based on the number of people on the server, so if only 8 people are on the server it won't choose a huge map.

Server IP: 81.169.188.18:7777

Terror Squad |Ts| Server: This is an American server that is populated sporadically during North American prime time.

Server IP: 63.211.105.67:7777

Comunidad Latina Server: This server is located in Atlanta but is supported by a community of laid-back Latin American and South American fraggers, so you'll encounter a lot of Spanish. However, they seem to be doing a good job of populating it during North American prime time.

Webpage and forums (helps if you speak and read Spanish): http://www.comunidadlatinos.com/
Server IP: 64.154.38.241:7777

Judge's CTF Server: This is a North American server that caters to a group of friends from various CTF communities but it has been populated lately during North American prime time and their is a Mapvote. I don't think he has a forum.

Server IP: 8.9.36.186:7777

Looks like fun. I'll need to check these out at some point.

I gradually moved away from UT99 several years ago because it was becoming increasingly hard to find a decent server without mods/instagib that played any maps I recognized, apart from Face.

Good thing about this game is people still play it even though it is 10 year old. yet to play 2003 one though.

Did the game go somewhere? I didn't know it had left.

Well, no. However, in the past couple of years it has been difficult to find populated regular weapons capture-the-flag servers that host custom maps and not just CTF-Face or games with mods such as Instagib, Sniper, or Strangelove. I started playing this again a couple weeks ago and now I'm finding that there are some populated servers of that type. The Comunidad Latina server and community is a very welcome addition that I had never seen before and Xoldog seems to have more people on it now than it did before.

Bookmarked.
Thanks so much.

My pleasure. If anyone is interested, I can also hook them up with 5v5 CTF pug matches.

don't have it or else i would! where can i get it(super cheap i'm guessing)?

I think your best bet would probably be to get the Unreal Anthology, which gives you the original Unreal single player FPS that challenged Quake II, Unreal 2, and most importantly UT99 and UT 2004. Newegg has it for $10 shipped last I looked.

UT1999? I wouldn't even bother with UT2004. It's just too old...

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. If fancy graphics and eye candy are important then by all means purchase a newer FPS. However, if you're looking for a run-n-gun style arena shooter with excellent playability and great chemistry and feel that mentally feels like a timeless athletic cybersport then consider UT99 for Capture-the-Flag and Deathmatch and UT 2004 for Onslaught and Invasion Monster Hunt RPG.

There are servers that only host CTF-Face and they are populated. There's one called High Speed CTF-Face and another called Haley's Hothouse.

I love this game..It's still the most "solid" of all the UT games in my opinion. Nothing beats a concentrated 5 rocket blast at someone's feet at point blank range.;)

I wish Steam would do a weekend deal for UT, offering it for $2 or something. That should really reinvigorate the game and give it a few thousand new players and a few more years of life. It certainly deserves it.

That's pretty cool. I remember the raging debates over Q3 vs UT. Both kick ass IMO. I prefer to turn down the music in Q3 but crank it in UT though. Anyone got UT working smoothly on a quad core?

I use to play on a snipers only server back in 2000/2001 or so. Can't think of the clan name at the moment. I wasted soooooo much time.

UT99 was the first competitive FPS I've ever played, I spent countless hours playing CTF-Face.

Ditto. I bought a new computer just to play it since the current one at the time was way old. I'd dld the demo and was blown away. I tried the Q3 demo at the same time but it just didn't do it for me.

Same here. :)

I was a die-hard Q2 player and didn't like Q3 much. UT was an amazing game and I had weekly lan parties with friends all the time for this game. It was worth lugging your CRT and tower + accessories across town to play in the same room as a bunch of friends. Awesome game.

not a CTF fan, but loved DM / TDM. I miss those days... are those game types on UT99 still alive and kicking? All I ever saw when I reinstalled were bots, bots, and more bots.

Thanks for the post, I will have to pick that up!

A bit off topic, but nostalgic for UT99: Sniper Redeemer Heaven was a custom map that I enjoyed back in the day... I became skilled enough fly the 'deemer missiles through narrow hallways in the mountainside, which led to accusations of haxxoring. Anybody else recall this map?

Man, I still have my copy of UT99 from back in the day. Unfortunately, I didn't play it that long because I happened to stumble upon Q3 and that consumed nearly all my time for gaming in the early 2000s, tried out (and loved) UT2k4 in the mid-2000s, then since then it was a mishmash of games and now I find myself playing Q3CTF again.
