Wow, this is good news. Last time I looked into it, it wasn't available to the public. Any clue where we can get it?

Maybe someone else can answer this, but does the release of the test mean that the engine is now at a stage where it is finalized enough for release? I know there are bound to be patches and such, but the way I look at it, that means they think the engine is good enough to go.

Id love to see how Unreal 2 would run on my 16MB Rage 128 Im running!

 Oops, not the same thing (but impressive anyway) . . . consider this a 'bump' . . . :)

From the article:

<< The performance test was recently put to task on leading hardware Web site
Anandtech.com. The site compared 15 of today's leading cards at five
different resolution settings.

"There are other game engines that have been used for benchmarking, but none
are as robust, or as relevant as the Unreal Performance Test 2002," said
Anand Lal Shimpi, editor-in-chief of AnandTech.com. "With the 6-month
video-card product cycles, you have to play a guessing game as to whether
you'll be buying adequate power for the future. Card manufacturers have
long stated that their hardware could stand up to the demands of tomorrow's
games. Now we can finally put their claims to the test."

Anand would know.

3-in-a-row . . . I'll quit after this . . . :)

From Anand's article:

<< The benchmark is not publicly available and we have received it courtesy of Epic Games, we cannot redistribute it. >>

Next-Generation Game Performance with the Unreal Engine: 15-way GPU Shootout (1/21/02) I sure missed this one.

EDIT: Good article BTW. Some conclusions: The Radeon keeps up with the GeForce; NONE of today's card will run Unreal 2 very fast at 1600 x 1200 x 32.

You're out of luck!

:(

From a recent interview with AEpic's Mark Rein

<< HomeLAN - So what exactly is the test? Is it a game that you run? When do you think the Unreal Performance Test will be released to the publicHomeLAN - So what exactly is the test? Is it a game that you run? When do you think the Unreal Performance Test will be released to the public?

Mark Rein - The Unreal Performance Test 2002 is basically a fly-by of a level that has its detail level pushed way upward to where we think games running on high-end hardware need to be in one to two years from now. So this isn't something you would run on your PC today and say "hey my PC sucks because it only scores 13 fps on UPT2002". For this reason we've decided not to give the test to the public or show it publically. We're going to give it to select press, under NDA, who run extensive performance labs but not to end-users. What we do plan to do instead is put some of the performance gathering information from the UPT into the upcoming Unreal Tournament 2 demo. So the UT2 demo will provide the functionality of the Unreal Performance Test but at a level that represents the retail version of UT2. The Unreal Performance Test to provide the more detailed solution to the professional press and IHVs because it will continue to evolve from a technology standpoint and push new features well after the releases of UT2 and Unreal2.
