Unreal II Won't Initialize in Win2KPro***Fixed** (stupid) ATA Storage Drivers

ONE time - the first time - I did a clean instal, it worked fine (p l e a s e don't ask why I didn't leave it alone after that). 😱

Anyway, no matter what I do it won't "start". 🙁
Win98SE on the other partition runs U-II fine. 🙂
I even tried it on another Maxtor HD . . . U-II and Win2K is no-go for me. 😛
Even 3Dmark2001 scores are significantly lower on Win2K than 98SE and I have the same issue of drivers (tried Cats 3.0 and 3.1). 😕

I am guessing there are probably "issues" with ATA and MB drivers (I have the latest) and some "obscure" MS Infs will probably patch it (I hope - I'd liked to dump 98SE for "good"). I have a Tualatin Soyo TISU MB. :disgust:

However it looks like a lot of work to figure out and I am asking if anyone has already run across this and is there a quick "fix"?

FIXED - ATA Storage Driver Uninstalled. Now to see if the the Intel Application Accelerator will work in it's place. 😀

I guess no one has run into this specific problem . . . the Unreal forums are reporting plenty of other bugs and it looks like a patch is due soon.

Anyway, since I finshed the game on 98SE, it is not "urgent" . . . I e-mailed tech support and will report back.

In the meantime . . . if anyone runs across a fix LMK please.

It looks like a "Secure-ROM" problem.

Work-arounds include:

1) ONLY install using ONE CD (I used both my DVD and CD to install)
2) Install "special" MS Infs (for my MB chipset)
3) UPdate all CD/DVD drives firmware
4) Copy ALL the files to the HD (that's at least 3 Gigs)

I did everything but #4 and So far, it's still not working with Win2K!

So, unless Tech Support (or someone here) can help . . . I guess I'm finally going to make the "switch" to XP. 😛

Are there more problems with Win2K for gaming than either 98SE or XP? - I sure see a lot of "work-arounds".
(In fact, 3DMark2001 NEEDS a "patch" with DX9 to work on the Win2K platform it doesN'T need with 98SE.)
