I got a speeding ticket back in august 2003, which I contested back them because it was either that or lose my licence.

Problem now is I moved out in september 2003, and I had never done a change of address. They had sent the a registered letter to my old house (fathers house), but I was unable to sign for it because I was living 3hours away going to school.

Since then I havn`t heard anything about the ticket, and I just want to pay it now so I don`t get arrested for an unpaid ticket. Where would I go to pay the ticket, or to get a court date?

Thanks.

Call the town in which you went to court in?

Rocket science I tell you!

Show up to the local police station and present your ID, they will be happy to arrange transport for you back to the jurisdiction in which you failed to appear. Or in other words you already have a warrant issued for your arrest.

I hate to tell you this, but I think you are screwed.

this happened to me just this year and I was just 2 months late to pay the fee and was fined 400 dollars MORE on top of the speeding ticket. but once again, this was California, I think your Canadian government will be nicer to their citizens.

You think that makes a difference? My friend got his license suspended for a clerical error and was never even notified. He drove around for 6 months on a suspended license till he got pulled over by a cop and had his car towed. Then he had to go to court to get it all straightened out.

EDIT: Call the court/cops in the town in which the ticket was issued.

So you think missing your court date is OK because you never got the letter?

It likely varies by state, but here in Oregon if you miss a court date an arrest warrant is issued.

Have you been stopped since then?

in Cali, there's a "grace period" given out before the warrant is issued if you missed the court date.
in 2002 I missed the court date (coz I didn't receive letter and lost the ticket) and I showed up to the court out of curiosity a month or so later; the lady just asked me to pay the fine and i am good to go. She said they were about to issue a warrant if I was any later.

in 2004, I missed the court date (coz I had to attend my sis's wedding) and showed up 2 months later I was fined the extra amount for not showing up.

Contact the cleark of the court.

That person will be able to trace the case via the ticket number, your name and/or ID #.

Provide all the ansers that they need and then follow their instructions. Attempt to side step will make the situation worse.

When you send in payment, make sure that it is signed for. After you clear the ticket up, you may still have to straighten out your license.

In regards to even paying a ticket and having problems.

I had paid a ticket at UF and thought that was that, I was stopped about 6 months later and told my license was suspended and had to have someone pick me up or my car would be towed (I think I was only given this option as I told the cop I paid the ticket and had a cleared check even for it at home).

I didn't have to go to Gainesville, but I had to write a letter, copy my cleared check and wait about 20 days for my license to be restated.
