Does anyone have any good beginner sites for both of the hobbies? Does anyone have any suggests for clothing and masks? Is one hobby more expensive than the other?

Airsoft

I've been looking at the TM SG-552 or the TM G-36C. What concerns me is the small battery size. How much is this going to affect my gameplay?

Paintball

I've been looking at the Tippmann A-5, so far I havent seen anything I dont like about it. Are their any other alternatives to Tippman at the $300 range?

I like paintball better.
The A5 is a good beginer gun...easy to do a few mods to it.
I started off with a Spyder E99. The E99 would also be a good starter gun.

A bunch of us go play at the Fort Lewis military base. They have it set to where you can play differnt
styles like speed ball, woods ball....and they even have a small city for cap the flag.

If you live close to Tacoma WA....let me know:D

btw..get a good mask that has the anti fog lens

good mask
I have this one but in green

And you might want to thing about using a cup. The odds of getting shot there is low....but Ive watched
it happen before and it wasnt pretty:)

Paintball hurts more, airsoft hurts less. Airsoft has longer range (there *are* in fact snipers in airsoft unlike paintball), not nearly as expensive, more fun, not messy, more realistic, etc.

Im not sure I understand airsoft, but when you get shot you do not get "marked" like you would with paintball?

So whos to say somebody could cheat

No one.. it goes by honesty.. I've found both are pretty fun but some airsoft guys are just wacko.. totally into the roleplaying thing being marines and having call signs and insignias and stuff.. way too serious its supposed to be fun

airsoft is milsim.

that's why there are "wackos". They get really into the military simluation aspect.

if you want fast games, paintball is your style. if you want some badass military scenarios, airsoft is more your cup of tea.

Let me get this right. Airsoft are those yellow plastic bb's right? If so, I don't see how those can be longer range or hurt more than paint balls.

I've been looking at the Tippmann A-5, so far I havent seen anything I dont like about it. Are their any other alternatives to Tippman at the $300 range?

at that price point unless you want to go electro spyder or pirahna you're probably fine with an A-5 altho i do suggest the RT version. i would consider an autococker or maybe even impulse for just a bit more tho, if you're serious about playing.

i've tried airsoft and imho it's for either 1) realism freaks who think they are super spys or 2) people who suck at paintball and therefore "play" airsoft because they can cheat like mad. errr, i mean, it's "less messy" or whatever. we do have fun with our airsoft guns when we're off at paintball tourneys tho, great for shooting at each other at the hotel the night before.

as far as clothes, find some old sweats or jeans or whatever. most fields use paint that easily washes out as their 'field paint'. long sleeves are good, altho we have people that come up and play in tshirts and wife beaters and some with no shirt. usually frat kids.

as far as a mask, buy a vforce. you don't have to drop 100 bucks for the profilers, but they are the best thing going. i've used about everything out there and these things are great for keeping fog away and having good airflow. i've gone out on humid days and tried fogging mine and they simply won't. they also don't have the double paned lense like JT uses (dye also i believe, but the invisions are just uncomfy period) so you don't have the problem of paint getting into that foam between the lenses and eating away and causing early lense death.

one last edit. pbnation.com is a decent forum. warpig.com and paintball.com have okay news. but get out and play. you might even want to go by a local field and see if anyone is shooting an A-5. usually people will let you fire off a few shots to see how you like it.

What is a autococker exactly anyway? I've got no clue what that means... :p

What kind of paintballs do you guys recommend? I've heard the Barrel on the A-5 sucks and I was looking at a Flatline. I know its really bitchy with the paintball that you use. Their is a paintball field in town however they supposedly only let you use their paint. I havent talked to them in person but I might find out this weekend. What other alternatives are their to a flatline barrel? I'd perfer one thats short for speed ball but still accurrate and reiable(sp?).

AutoCocker is a style of gun, mine is pnumatic feed both ways on the bolt, air pushes it forward to fire the ball, then back to reload.
edit: Autococker is a closed bolt gun. There are three stages of the firing mechanism. The first part of the trigger pull releases the hammer, firing the paintball. The second part is the end of the trigger pull which trips the 4-way valve, sending gas (CO2/nitrogen/compressed air) to the front of the ram which pushes the rod/block/bolt back. This allows a new paintball to drop into the breech and pulls the hammer back. The third part is the trigger release which returns the 4-way, sends gas to the back of the ram, and closes the bolt. ripped from Auto Cocker Infosheet

Most fields around here are Field Paint Only, but they will have few different kinds, so you can get one that fits your barrel. and yes, not all paintballs and barrels are equal. that .002 of an inch can make a big difference..

short and accurrate are almost mutually exclusive with paintball, imo. It's nothing to show up on a field and see guys with 2 or 3 barrels. I've got 3 myself. 2 of them were gifts from a friend because they fit my marker better than his
