unmountable boot volume

that's the blue screen error I get when I try to reboot my computer. When I came back from class my computer was frozen, and that message appears now every time I try to restart. I think its a hard drive problem, but I also tried to reinstall windows. Weird thing is that when setup got to the part where I am supposed to select a partition, my c: partition's data thing was listed as unknown instead of FAT32 like when I originially formatted it. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem before, and if partitions can somehow lose their data formats.

Wow that sounds bad. I only hear about mounting w/ Linux and stuff. =P I suggest fdisk, format, and windows. If that doesn't work... it's time to buy a new hard drive. =D

When you get that error, reboot from the Windows XP CD and choose the repair option. From the prompt type chkdsk /r and press enter. Checkdisk will run and repair the problem. When it is finished, type exit and your computer should boot normally. At that point, go to Microsoft's Windows Update website (under help and support) and download the fix for this problem...
