unlocking the cdrw drive??

how do i unlock a drive if it's lock via software?? i never really came into this situation before....

my dad was using a philips cdrw (yeah, the cheap/freebie one) using cdrw and directcd. Well, the status of it was locked and the media wasn't ready... ejecting only by the emergency eject hole....

I know there's software that will do it (lock/unlock/eject), but how bout just in win2k...
