You should be fine with the stock cooler. Download Rivatuner RC16 (or whatever's latest) and look around. I don't remember off the top of my head, and I'm at work, so I can't tell you *exactly* what to do until I'm home.

I believe it's safe to unlock for a short while, but sometimes if you keep damaged pipes unlocked long enough the card will fail. Not sure about this, though. It's easy to tell when you have damaged pipes; when you unlock and load up a game, if it looks like someone took the frames and ran them through a mesh screen and sandpapered it, you have damaged pipes. Or if it artifacts like the dickens.

Cool I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes. The clock speeds are pretty close to the Ultra, so hopefully the pipes will unlock and the card will become badass.

doesn't it start with only 4 pipes? or is it 8? Either way, it's alot of pipes to go before you got them all unlocked :)

It is 8 pipes. It is an AGP card so it uses the NV40 architecture while the PCIe uses the NV42.

The fan is actually pretty fantastic as it comes factory clocked at 350 by 1050. That is a bit better than the 6800GT.

I just need to unlock some pipes.

This is meant to be a gift for my bro who has a 9800 pro 128. Should hold him till I get my R600/G80 and pass on to him my 7800 GTX.

that clock speeds are higher than a 6800gt but its nowhere new the performance. There only a tad higher anyways, most retailer clocked their 6800gt's higher.

If these extra pipes are damaged and you can only run with the original 8, this card will be only a little faster than a 6600GT at best. 6600GT has 8 pipes but runs at 500MHz. Memory is only 128MB and 128-bit but runs at 1000MHz. The only advantages this 6800XT might have is the 256MB of RAM at 256-bit. But that just might make it break even with a 6600GT. So, good luck and I hope you can get at least 12 pipes working.

Wow....those are fast stock speeds. My plain 6800 will only do 368/780. But, all the pipes unlock without any artifacts. Good luck!

The clocks may be a bit better, but that 6800XT will be about half the performance of the 6800GT. The 6800GT is a 16-pipe design, the 6800XT would perform on about the same level as a 6600GT.

It isn't unlocking. I mean I unlock the masked shaders and then it asks me to restart. When I do, it is back to where it was.

Plus it is a NV41 core. I didn't know XTs came in nv41.
