Unlocking the 4th band on a Motorola L6

So I made a mistake and purchased a Motorol L6 SLVR off ebay. This phone, as advertised, is TRI band....900/1600/1950....I am on cingular however, and apparently they use thr 850mhz band in my area...and this phone is unable to connect to the network 🙁 I called the seller on ebay, and he seemed to think there is a way to unlock the 4th band on the phone so I can use it, but he didnt have any details on how to do so. Does this even seem possible? If so, what would I need to do? I have the usb cable already, and I can hook it up to my computer if neccessary. Do you think I should call motorola and see what they say? This is a pretty crappy situation, but I suppose thats what I get for not researching 🙁 any ideas??

god dang it....called Motorola...looks like its the European model which has the 900/1600/1900 bands like I said. I guess I dont really have any options 🙁

I can either sell it here to someone thats on one of those bands, or go with an ebay unlocking service

just curious how much you spent on it? and what are the major differences btw the L7 and the L6

it was about 150 on ebay. major differences are: its silver, not black, it doesnt support iTunes, it doenst have the memory card expansion slot that the l7 does...thats about it that I know of. I wanted the L7, but it was too expensive, and i didnt need the features. I love the l6 though, cant wait to get it working!!!
