Okay, so I have 2 hard disks that my roommate had in an xbox at one time or another. One is the stock xbox hard drive, and the other is a 200 GB maxtor that he tried to get to work. We have since scrapped the xbox project and i'm trying to use those 2 hard drives in a linux box. The BIOS doesn't recognize them, and fdisk won't write to them. We just realized that the HD's are locked from being in the xbox and such, and we don't have the password to unlock them. Even better, the original xbox they were in is now deep-sixed in a dumpster somewhere, so we can't use that to recover it. Is there ANY way to unlock these hard drives, or am i fvcked? Thanks for any advice....

Cliffs:
Hard drives locked by xbox
My roommate and i are n00bs and threw away the passwors
xbox is gone
can i unlock the drives in ANY WAY?

tsk tsk...... should have backed up the eeprom. If by chance you do have the eeprom, PM me and I can help you get the HDD's unlocked. If you don't, there's really not much you can do to unlock the HDD's (at least not that I know of). On the plus side, you'll have two new handy paper weights you can use.

Shoot, I hope I'm not asking a taboo question. Mods, if this is a problem, please let me know. I don't mean to cause any trouble. Just trying to install a little gentoo :)

there's a chance it's on my roommate's computer, but we havent found it yet.... if i can find that, i know how to unlock them, this thread is assuming we don't find it (which i don't think we will)

No, this stuff happens all the time. I've seen and heard many stories of people trying to unlock Xbox HDD's but not being able to because they don't have a backup of their eeprom or the HDD lock password.

I just remembered that most Xbox/PC programs that lock HDD's set a master password for the HDD, just for situations like this. What program did you use to lock the 200GB HDD? If you used config magic or evox, the master password is TEAMASSEMBLY.

If this is the case, make a bootable floppy with the atapwd program on it (google it) and then use that to unlock the 200GB HDD with the master password.

As for the stock HDD, you may not be able to unlock it with a master password, unless you unlocked it, then re-locked it with a HDD locking program. Otherwise stock HDD's don't come with master passwords set on them.

And if you used XboxHDM to unlock it, the master password should be XBOXSCENE.

sweet, i'll try that. i don't really care about the xbox hard drive, it's the 200 gig one i'm concerned about. i appreciate it.
