Does anyone have some pointers for unlocking my AMD XP 1600. I need some pointers and maybe some recommendations on unlocking kits. And maybe someone could sell me a huge ass magnifying glass?:)

Be patient. It took me 2 tries to finish my new AGOIA. The first one looked PERFECT under a 10X loop. I was stumped when it wouldn't allow me to change the multiplier. cleaned it very carefully and did it again. use an eraser or a toothpic to clean the dots very gently. do not use anything abrasive and ensure you fill the pits with something non conductive (i used regular silicon). do not cross bridges with your "paint" ( i use defogger kit). enjoy!!

it always seems that when people unlock these 1600s they get worse results than if you didn't

Depends on which mobo. Some mobos don't allow the PCI/AGP buses to remain at/near the 33MHz frequency - not good to FSB overclock in this case. For these mobos, if they allow for multiplier changes, Abit KG7 is an excellent example, you can change the 1600+ into a 1700+, 1800+, etc.

upping the multiplier though doesnt yeild much of a performance increase. the only thing you gain is a few mhz in terms of general CPU frequency. its like difference between a 733mhz processor and an 800 or something.
When you up the bus, youre gaining additional bandwidth. Such is where performace lies!

Andy please stop being a pu**y and get the damn defogger kit, how many times do i have to tell you. We can do yours, mine, and my dads on some nice sunny weekend. Dont be scared, woman..
see ya in school

Lol. Screw you matt. That one reply said a kit would be better, plus, it is desgined for OC. It comes with the tools and the proper stuff designed for OC as opposed to something I would use on my car.

Tools= toothpic, pin or thin strand of copper wire

equipment= anything non conductive and something conductive

The defogger kit is $6 and the OC kit is $12 plus shipping- for stuff at your local HW store. Go down to the corner and get the defogger.

Hey ive seen on ONE site where they used thermal compound to fill the gaps. Is this sufficient, if you can manage to shove enough down there, or should i just pop some superglue in there [and wipe off the excess on the top, so it doesnt dry and force me to get the exacto knife]?
