Unlocking GSM phones

How do you go about unlocking your gsm phone that you purchased through a company (ie: Tmobile, cingular, At$t). I was planning a trip to Mexico and figured that if I called the tmobile, they would unlock it for me so that I can use Mexican gsm cards. But the lady said that I would have to go down there, purchase, a Mexican sim card, call them back from that card, and then they would finally unlock the phone just for this one sim card.

I know there are ways to unlock the phones completely. I've seen company specific phones being sold as unlocked and I would like to get that done so I don't have to spend hundreds on an unlock gsm phone. If anyone has any suggestions, please post.

and tell them you're traveling abroad.

Sorry, I don't know what an IMEI# is. Can you elaborate?

You can unlock this yourself.
No need to call T_mobile

How-To Unlock your S105 without a datacable or contacting T-Mobile:

1) Enter #0111*00000000# in the idle screen and then press send.

a) IF your phone states "Personalization Cancelled" Your S105 is now unlocked.

b) IF your phone states "Phone is locked, Please Service" you must enter: *2767*STACKRESET# into the idle screen and allow it to full reboot your phone.

When the phone has returned to normal from STACKRESET, re-enter the unlock code "#0111*00000000#".

Your phone should now be unlocked. Try to insert another carriers SIM Card, if it is read, congratulations, your phone is completely unlocked.

it worked on my s105...but like always try at ur own risk

TRY THIS ONCE and DO IT RIGHT. If it doesn't work then contact T-mobile.

there's no remote code unlock for this (currently). You'll need to take it to an unlocker or do a "Remote cable unlock" which involves you plugging the phone into your computer, paying for an unlock credit and then doing it over the internet. (Same as someone doing it in a store)

This is what I did when I went to Europe. They will give you a code that you should enter after you put in the new SIM card.
Voila'!

How do you like the phone? I've been thinking about getting it, I'm using a T68i as a prepaid phone right now (I'm in Europe) and need to get on a regular plan.

When I first tried entering #0111*00000000#, it said "wrong password". So I tried entering *2767*STACKRESET# and the phone did reboot. Then I tried enterin #0111*00000000# again but it still says "Wrong Password".

Nokia GSM phones can easily be unlocked by calculating the unlock 'password'.

The software to do this is available on the net, although difficult to find and use. Easiest is to pay someone about $5 and e-mail them your phone's model number, serial number and provider details and they can calculate the code.
