Unlocking Athlon XPs to improve RAM through-put (questions)

I had read somewhere that if you unlock a CPU and decrease it's multiplier and increases its bus speed, you can keep your CPU around the same speed as it was originally (for the sake of stability), but improve performace. I think it was in Maximum PC. Anyhow, I was wondering what I'd have to consider. In terms of cooling and RAM. Right now I have 2 - 256MB sticks of Crucial PC2100 RAM. Can this take a faster bus speed? Any comments on the amount of overclocking the RAM can handle?
thanks,

most the crucial pc2100 I've messed with can go to pc2700 speed no problem (166mhz). As far as cooling goes, if you decrease the multiplier and up the fsb, typically your temps stay right around the same, perhaps go down a bit even at the same mhz speed. So, your cooling should be fine. As far as ram heatspreaders go, don't bother, waste of money.
