Unlocking a 1700+ xp

I just have a couple of questions about unlocking of the 1700+.

1/ There are many websites that tell you how to unlock them. But they all differ in some ways like some only seem to talk about the L1 and others about the L3, L4, L10 & L11 being connected or cut insome way. So which is the right way that works???

2/ What is the best overclock i can get out of the 1700+??

All you want to do is connect the L1 bridges... period. Don't mess with the others.

What is the stepping on your cpu? That will probably tell you how much of an OC you can expect.

anand on CPU stepping

To deturmine the stepping of your athlon XP look at the writing on the CPU core. THe Core is the raised square between the four rubber guides on the "top" of the CPU (the pins are on the bottom)🙂

The fist few letters of the third line will be the CPU stepping.

It should read something like:

AMD ATHLON .......................This tells ya you in AMD country
AX1800DMTxxx ....................This is the modle number
AGOGAxxxxxxxxxx ...............The first few letters here are the stepping "AGOGA" in this case
Yxxxxxxxxxxxx......................This is the serial number for the CPU i think.

hope this helps.

Well to be honest AGKGA is a pretty cruddy stepping, at least compared to the newer ones (AROIA, AGOIA). I think you'd be lucky to hit 1700 MHz.

It was made in week 41 of 2001... so that's probably October or so.

Honestly I can't remember what the L3's are for but I can tell you, you don't need to mess with them if you want to unlock your chip.
