Have any of you had success in unlocking the 5th and 6th disabled cores in your Phenom II x4 thuban 9xxt processors?

I have a Biostar TA880GU3+ board, which specifically says it supports core unlocking in the BIOS. I am slightly tempted to buy one of these, because I figure there might be a decent chance of unlocking at least 1 additional core, and perhaps getting a Phenom II x5.

Can anyone point me towards a specific model that is likely to unlock well?

Thanks!

Ph II`s only had 4 cores to start with (if anyone tells you different then you`ve been had in more ways than one)... Thuban was different all the way around it has 6 cores to start with...

The 9XXT Phenom II processors are OEM only, all the retail Phenom II X4 chips are based on Deneb and only have 4 cores to begin with.

There are indeed Thuban based x4's that are full 6-core CPU's with 2 cores disabled. I haven't kept up with the it, the only ones that come to mind are the x4 840T and x4 960T.

As far as I know only OEMs have been able to get them, I didn't know you could get them now. Maybe ebay?

But like I said, I haven't kept up so IDK if one model would be more likely to unlock than another model.

Any of the Phenom II X4 CPUs with a T at the end are Thurban, and have a chance of unlocking. For the record, all motherboards that have the unlock feature will unlock the same, its not the mobo, its the CPU.

From what I've read, HP is shipping systems with OEM 960T processors, and they have support for turbo, unlike most of the other Phenom II x4 chips out there.

Trouble is, I can't seem to buy one of these anywhere.... OEM only, evidently. AMD must be worried about people unlocking an extra core or 2, instead of plunking down $150 for their 6 core cpu. I should say, actually, that two are for sale on Ebay right now. Unfortunately, they are $20 more than a 6 core version already costs.... funny, since they are OEM.

Hummm...? News to me but learn something new every day... Besides what does a SB user know anyhow... (been out of the AMD scene for a few months) Interesting info but doesnt sound to worth the trouble...?

cant you get a 1055t for around $150 anyways? They all OC to the same 4.X Ghz anyway. I don't understand the fuss.

Just get a 1055T and set your FSB to 240Mhz and you are good to go.

do the 1055Ts have unlocked multipliers?

No, but unless I'm mistaken you can use the turbo multiplier to your advantage in overclocking. I've never overclocked Thuban, so I can't say for sure, but it's not BE with a fully unlocked multiplier like the 1090T or 1100T.

not really needed, you should be able to lower the ram and HT multipliers and jack up the Bus frequency high enough to hit ~4.x Ghz. But you don't really want to run the HT at the default 2.0 once you start overclocking, performance and overclockability suffer if you don't also speed up the HT freq a bit.

There are no X4 Thubans. Thubans are always X6. There are X4 Denebs and X4 Zosmas. Denebs can never unlock to 6 cores but Zosmas can because they are Thubans with 2 cores disabled.

I think the part you are trying to get is a Zosma but I haven't heard of any way to get one.
