I got a new job today and was setting up a cabinet for myself when I came across a P2 233 processor buried under some junk parts :) After a little finessing my boss, I talked him into letting me have it ;) SCORE ! I took it home and put it in a tyan trinity 400 and got it as far as 75 bus at 3.5 multiplier.
Then I tried it in my trusty P3V4X. I realized it doesnt have a locked multiplier!
What is the best way to run this chip?
I think its supposed to be a 3.5 multiplier at 66 MHz???? I can run it at all kinds of combinations ...it's kind of fun albeit isnt a coppermine or P3 500, it benchmarks better then my 466 celeron at 525 did when I ran this 233 at 300 Mhz.
Goes to prove that a Pentium 2 is superior in benchmarks by a good margin over a celeron clock for clock.. I noticed that the P3V4X wants to run it at 2.8 volts! Is that correct? I thought Pentium 2's ran AT 2.0V ?

I added two more fans to the rinky-dink stock fan on the stock retail heatsink. Im sure the heat grease is dried up or non existant.

What would be a safe volatge to run a 233Mhz P2 at? and what would be the ideal multiplier / bus speed.
I have pc-100 ram right now cas running at turbo and cas2 with bus +pci at 100 bus x 3.5 while I am writing this and it seems like its very cool.
Motherboard is at 24 degrees, much lower then my celery 2 runs at when I run it 850-880MHz at 1.7 volts core.. Is it hard to crack the stock heatsink off of a p2? It has rivits in it...
One more question, what is a unlocked 233 worth these days?

Okay, does anyone know where I can find info on this chip for over clocking?

the voltage is fine, the older ones use 2.8volts and newer p2's use 2.0 like you said. I've got a 233 thats stable at 350 mhz so go for it! the caea isn't hard just scary at first, rip her off. the plastic cover is clipped on so use a screw driver to pop her. just sold mine for $80AUS

Yea, I got it at 348 MHz now 3 x 116 bus with pc 100 ram running 1 to 1 cas 2 7 nano seconds and the cpu at 2.9 volts.
about a 33 % over clock... not bad for an old chip with stock heatsink and probrobly dried up grease or worse, a dried up thermal tape.
It really performs better then my 466 celeron at 525 did !!!

Ifigure i can safeluy go to 3.0 volts withoout worrying to much.

I think I could get 55-60 Bucks US for this chip.

I would like to see what I can do with some good stuff like infineon pc133. Then I will know I can make a 700 coppermine scream.
