Unlocked Frame Rate and More Now Enabled for UWP
We’re listening – and acting

As a direct response to your feedback, we’re excited to announce the release today of new updates to Windows 10 that make gaming even better for game developers and gamers.

Later today, Windows 10 will be updated with two key new features:

Support for AMD’s FreesyncTM and NVIDIA’s G-SYNC™ in Universal Windows Platform games and apps
Unlocked frame rate for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) games and apps
Once applications take advantage of these new features, you will be able to play your UWP games with unlocked frame rates. We expect Gears of War: UE and Forza Motorsport 6: Apex to lead the way by adding this support in the very near future.

This OS update will be gradually rolled out to all machines, but you can download it directly here .

Great, it's getting better. Unreasonable people will still bash UWP for something though. I don't mind, so long as MS doesn't pull a GFWL.
You can be very reasonable and still find plenty of faults in UWP.

We're supposed to be proud of them that they FINALLY did what should have been there when it was released?

I'm a hater that's gonna hate. They really dropped the ball on this.

And Valve dropped the ball on Steam. Every new service will have its quirks. MS is actually moving relatively fast on fixing UWP.

People still hate on Origin, but it's turned out to a pretty decent platform. It's not my preferred multi-plat, but I won't have second thoughts about purchasing an exclusive title on it.

I would also like to know what this laundry list of faults is that reasonable people will find. File editing for mods and exclusive fullscreen are all that come to mind.

Horrible comparison. Steam was Valves first attempt at anything like that AND it was over 10 years ago. MS has had...what 7 OS's to get it right?

The comparison is valid. MS is currently trying to develop a universal AIP that allows developers to generate applications against a range of devices from PCs, smartphones, tablets, and consoles. This comes with various challenges with dealing with different devices and managing the extensions that allow the application to automatically utilize the capabilities of the hardware it is currently running on.

MS has plenty of experience with OS development and consoles and has struggled with mobile but creating a platform that bridges all these platforms is a unique effort.

The only other company trying to do this is Google slowly merging Android and Chrome OS. Apple is content to let MAC OS and IOS remain separate as they reap in the cash from their own mobile walled garden.
