Unlocked Duron 800MHz not wanting to work at 1GHz..

The highest I can seem to get my unlocked Duron 800MHz is 950MHz without using the FSB (last time I tried to overclock using the FSB with my Duron 600MHz, I ended up mysteriously ruining it).. If I try any higher, my screen'll go black as soon as I restart, then it'll be back at the default speed and voltage. It's a week 40 Duron 800MHz. Is this common or should I be easily achieving 1GHz with my processor?

I've tried 1.65v to 1.83v.. The actual voltage is usually .7v more than the BIOS says. The highest I can set in the BIOS is 1.8v, so.. I -might- be able to get 1.87v.. Thing is, I recently fried my Duron 600MHz and I really don't know how. The highest temp it got was 37 C. when I was running it at 990MHz.

I have the same problem. Right now I am at 900mhz and 40C. I can run at 950mhz with no proplems but it runs at 42C. 1000mhz locks on the windows load up blue screeen. It is so close! Most of these chips top out at 950mhz and below.

PlunX,

Part of the problem may be that your cpu core isn't running at 37C. It is probably running in the 44-48C range(depending on heatsink/ambient temp, etc). This isn't to say you're lying, but your mb is.

Still, even at sub50C, your cpu is within operating parameters, and it just may be that your chip won't o/c that high.

My Duron 700 overclocks to 1ghz at 1.825v (+whatever else my MB adds on...). So I tend to think you either don't have the voltage to do it, OR you could use a better heatsink for heat control, OR your chip just can't get there.

I have heard that Duron 800's are not great overclockers....

good luck.
