I am reading that all XP2500+ after week 39 are locked, Well that blows. How about the 2600+ Bartons? Does anyone have one of those? and are they locked also? I need one, but I do not want to replace the DDR2700 I currently have, and can only overclock by multi of now.

Listen, whatever you decide, I want that 266fsb 2600. And yes, the new 2600's are locked, I hear. Of course, if you buy one from somewhere that doesn't sell alot of them (that leaves out newegg), it's still possible to get an unlocked version. Of course, the new ones have a 333fsb...

Well, I have one week 44 that is locked and two week 27 and week 33 that are unlocked. To tell you the truth I like the locked one since it is the only one that goes over 2.3 GHz. You just need a good memory, that is all.

Locked muliplier = The CPU's multiplier cannot be changed.

The stepping codes, which are on the top of CPU itself will tell you the week of manufacture.

03 in the last line indicates the year of manf 2003 ... the 28 in the last line means week 28 of 2003

Does that mean that u cant overcock ur cpu when multipliers are locked?

no, it means that you can only change the fsb. so yes you can overclock.

shady06 - Why assume that the 2800+ is unlocked? Or do you know users who have late 2003 versions that are unlocked?
