Unlocked 6800

I have a friend who unlocked his and is seeing no raise in fps in the CS:S stress test. Hes seeing 85-90 fps. He also tried overclocking and is seein no raise in fps. He has a pentium 4 3.0 with hyperthreading and 1 gig of ram. What could be the problem here? Could the cpu be holding it back. In aquamark his scores were 7500 for cpu and 7200 gpu. My 6800GT thats overclocked scores 11000+. I have no idea what could be wrong with his setup, All my cards showed very noticeable improvement with overclocking.

Thats what I gave him to use to unlock it. But basically my question is, shouldnt he see a nice jump in fps and performance from the extra pipes? I havent inspected it myself since i dont live near him, but he claims to have seen very little gain in performance.

Well, a 6800 has 128 MB of video ram. One mark against it compared to your 6800GT. Stock speeds are slower. There's 2. The 6800 has DDR memory instead of DDR3 memory on your 6800GT. There's yet another. Performance gains won't be that much if the memory buffer is full and the card is reaching out into memory for buffered data. whether it's unlocked or not. Unless the trough of his FPS is rediculously low, I'm pretty sure he's got something good going there for CS: Source.
