Unlocked 2C/4T i3 for $100, locked 4C/4T i5 for $130-150?

Nope Intel won't go that low to sell the unlocked cpus. Look at the i3-7350K for example.

Well, they already released the G3258 unlocked Pentium prior, and it was only $65 or so.. (Maybe list was $70?).

I would be down with a G4560K Pentium "K" CPU, for $75, heck, even $80.

I think the OC motherboards would also need a price drop for it to really look attractive,

That's the thing - I'm pretty certain that you can now non-Z OC on a B150 board. (A $27 one, to boot.)

Point taken. I was basically asking for volunteers in the other thread. I don't have any unlocked SKL / KBL CPUs.

They aren't that terrible. A $20-$30 premium, depending on the brand.

Sure, high end overclocking motherboards are still crazy-pricey, and they'll stay that way. But for an "auto" OC on an air cooler without too much fiddling, and maybe a 10-15% clock boost, an inexpensive Z-series motherboard is fine.
