Unlock code single use?

Are the phone unlock codes provided by the carrier a single use code, or will they work on multiple phones?

I have two off the exact same phones (one for each of my parents purchased a few months apart.) We are switching carriers and my current carrier sent me an unlock code for one of them, but the other is not yet eligible per their unlock policy. Since they are the same phone though, will that code work on both?

no... unlock codes are typically unique for each phone (otherwise one person would simply get the unlock code and share among everyone). uncode codes are either generated via some algorithm, or the manufacturer/carrier maintains an excel spreadsheet of IMEI phone numbers mapped to some random number.

you can try paying to unlock.. some phones have a way to be unlocked generically.

also, Congress is approving a cellular unlock bill. not sure if it affects you positively

Ah that totally makes sense that it is tied to the IMEI, I hadn't thought of that. thanks for the info
