I was searching for cheap internet access providers and stumbled onto this ISP, 695online. What do you guys think? Is this legit? Anyone had any experience?

Looked like a good deal to me. Was just about to get it when I decided to ask about the conspicuously absent privacy policy... E-mails were not answered, so I tried calling them and discovered their "not yet enstated" privacy policy here, which says some lovely things like:
While you are using the 695online.com Service we collect information regarding the Web sites you visit, your interactions with those sites and the telephone number used to log in to the Service.
...
695online.com uses the information it collects to provide you with more relevant services, online shopping, third party offers, surveys and advertising. To accomplish this we perform research on the demographic, psychographic and other information we collect.
"Psychographic"?..heck, it may be worth $6.95/month to you, but it ain't to me..

YMMV :[

Look no farther and try this:

Accessforless

$5.95 per month, no contracts. go through freedomlist.com and get the $8 signup fee waived. Been using it for two months and regularly logon at 53k. Good luck .....

I'm using TalentG right now..service seems good so far (all of a week..hehe) and they don't boot you even after extended use. They're having a $7.99/month (normally $9.99) promotion where if you buy now, you keep the $7.99/month as long as your account remains active.
I contacted them about privacy, and they assured me that the only other company to receive any information about its users is ibill.com (their credit card handling agent), and that surfing habits are in no way recorded.

Wish I had known about getting that signup fee waived - I just signed up with them a couple weeks ago. They have lots of numbers in the areas I need them and the speed has been great. Even with the extra $8 fee it still seems like a bargain.

Hmmm, it's hard for me to find a good deal on unlimited internet here in Statesboro, GA. Anyone out there know if dialing a number outside of my area code will incur extra charges? I'm interested in doing one of these deals for $6-$8/mo. but I don't want to pay 10 cents a minute as well. Please LMK what I can do.

part of accesforless's policy:

VIOLATION OF ANY OF THESE TERMS WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF SERVICES. FURTHERMORE, VIOLATION OF ANY OF THESE TERMS, RELATING TO THE TERMS DESCRIBED WITHIN THIS "MESSAGING" SECTION OF THIS DOCUMENT, WILL RESULT IN THE IMMEDIATE PENALTY OF $200. Access4Less RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHARGE USER'S CREDIT CARD, IF ON FILE FOR USE IN PAYMENT OF Access4Less SERVICES, A ONE-TIME FEE OF $200 PER VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS. IN THE EVENT USER PRE-PAYS FOR THEIR Access4Less SERVICE VIA CASH, CHECK, OR MEANS OTHER THAN CREDIT CARD, Access4Less RESERVES THE RIGHT TO INVOICE AND HOLD USER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ONE-TIME FEE OF $200 PER VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS. USER ALSO AGREES TO THE IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF Access4Less SERVICES FOR VIOLATION OF ANY OF THESE TERMS.

What's up with the $200 fee for violations?

there are also other things like a) you will be disconnected after 10min of inactivity, then right after that is says a max of 5 hours of inactivity...which one is that? b) You cannot connect for 1 min after you have been kicked off....wtf? c) You can not stay on for more than 8 hours....

So if I accidentally stay on for 8 hours one time they may charge me $200 for violations of policy????!!!

Good point Techie...think I'll stay away from that one. I think all of these cheapo services have their hidden prices though.

Can anyone tell us if any of these "CHEAPIE" services offer "FREE" web space with an account?

FWIW, I use hawk access ( sister co. to Access4less ) and have been a user for over a year.
Their service is: $9.95 monthly.
Lately, their system has been buggie and i've notices the following problems......

I connect, and nothing happens.
I can't go anywhere or do anything.
Somethings I'm on for an hour and get disconnected.

The other day, I was unable to send or receive emails, notified them through tech support online.
A few minuted later everything seemed fine.
Then, I noticed that I was not getting the amount of email that I normally do.
I sent myself an email through another ISP and never received it.
I ended up getting calls from people asking me why I had no responded to their email.
Only when I contacted them, did they correct the email problem.
I got 70 at one time.

I need to find something better.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! :|

I know you can be inactive for more than 10 minutes and the connecting after reconnecting thing isn't true. I haven't used it much because it is just a backup in case the cable goes down, but I did use it quite a bit before getting the cable.

i use Express56 as my dial up service. fast lines, stable connections, not too much in the lines of EXTRAS, but you get your basic e-mail and i think some webspace (i don't use it so i don't care), but anyway, it's a $10 startup fee, and then 6.95 a month NO CONTRACT. great service, highly recommended.

These and others are on the < $ 10 ISP discussion board at www.freedomlist.com . ( Its hosted by Hawk Communications parent of Accessforless, Joyinternet but the info (good and bad) about all of the the ISPs seems to flow freely) .

I just got the unlimited plan for $9.99 a month and all I can say is Wow. It is running smooth at 48.0 Kbps and is going to save us $13 a month, no we don't have AOL btw we had voyager.net
