I've never owned a cell phone before, but I'm thinking about getting one to use as my main phone for when I transfer colleges next year. Right now my parents have a great home phone plan...for like $56/mo they get unlimited calls - local and long distance, anytime, for any length, for one set monthly price. It's a pretty sweet deal. I was wondering...are there any cell phone plans like that? The whole minutes thing seems like a headache...I have no idea how many minutes I'd talk for in a month...it varies a lot depending on where I am and what I'm doing.

Also, what do you guys like for phones? I prefer flip phones...so recommendations of any are appreciated :) I came across a Motorola MPx200 phone that looks nice.

Edit: Oh yeah...what's the clearest phone/phone service available? Or are they all equally static-y? :)

I know someone who lives in Dallas that has an unlimited cellphone plan. He pays about $140 a month for it, though. I can't remember which company it's through, but most of them don't have an unlimited plan, because they want to be able to charge you $.40 a minute for every minute that you go over your allotted time. You do realize that this isn't the place for questions like this, don't you?

definitely check out Howard Forums for all of your cell-phone related questions, it is a wealth of information and a very helpful community.

Edit: haha oic, you probably mean because it's not computer related...well...um...phones have computer stuff in em...right? right? haha...I'll take a look at orakle22's link, thanks guys!

Most of the cell phone providers will have a true unlimited plan (sell your soul) or a unreachable limit plan (steep) or plans that have time limits that you will have to hove no social life or neffing to exceed.

Check out their web sites for general guidelines.

MetroPCS for $40 if you are in their select areas. It says unlimited local and long distance.

The plan I have is essentially "unlimited"

Verizon 400 anytime, unlimited mobile to mobile, free N/W's

All my friends and family have Verizon and 400 anytime is more than enough minutes for any other calls I make. I never worry about counting minutes and I'm very happy with Verizon's service (coverage area, clear voice quality, etc)

Since you don't state where you are which is kinda important when dealing with cell companies, I don't know if this would apply to you. Cellular South has an unlimited calling plan for $50.00 IIRC.

Connecticut this year, and I might be transferring to a new college either in Boston or Utah next year.
