Unlikely people making crazy money on the internet

I always wonder if there are unlikely people making crazy money on the internet. I say unlikely because Amazon and Google are obviously making a lot, well enough to stay afloat atleast.

I am not going to post links, so don't think this is spam post.

- Saw a few websites that ship glasses from HK and India. I don't know if they make lots of money, but I thought that was pretty smart.

- Knew a web designer (not personally) out of India who charged American rates for designing websites. I wish I could remember his name, his sites were pretty nice. Imagine that, sitting in India and making $$$$.

- Plentyoffish. The owner posted 2 checks for ~$500K each just from google adwords.

- Probably some bloggers who make 6 figures.

There are people out there are are undoubtedly making money on the internet. I would say that out of the things you listed, the Google AdWords would probably be the easiest path to making money. Though in order to make six figures from it, you would need a website that gets an absurd amount of monthly traffic and has some good ads.

People that make money are usually either the first to do it or the first to think of a new way of doing something. Then we all sit around and say "why didn't I think of that?"

Ayono bout that bruh.

There were huge loopholes for a long time that allowed people to make big bucks with google ad words but those have since been closed up. I doubt you'd be able to make that much money now without major traffic.

Nobody admits to it, but I bet there are plenty of non-tech savvy people who pay for porn... and the subscriptions add up in a hurry, especially when it's amateur stuff.

I make a few bucks on internet marketing myself - but I know some people who do really really well. One of my clients (I write headlines for him) makes millions. He's a genius techie who works day and night doing nothing but web marketing. Been doing it for years. He doesn't care about the money to buy stuff, he uses it to keep score.

His secret, so he says, is testing, testing testing. If headline A converts one percent, and headline B converts one point five percent, switch to headline B - and keep testing.

Back in the heyday of Internet poker, it was not uncommon for people to pull 6 figures through referral/affiliate programs. I was making $1k+ a month at my peak and I didn't even have a site. The UIGEA pretty much killed all of that, at least for those of us living in the US.

I don't understand your post. Someone that sells products on the internet (glasses as you suggest) is merely running a normal business. The obvious desire there is to make money, and there are probably hundreds of thousands of successful ecommerce sites.

Also, I don't see how a web designer counts. They're providing a creative service. Do you also include copywriters, marketers, business developers, etc. that use the internet as a tool? There are plenty of software developers in India working for American rates as well.

I thought your question was more related to the gimmicky way of making money: ads, referrals, etc. For that, I imagine there aren't a lot of people making a living wage off of it.

And when it comes to blogs, believe me there are probably only a tiny handful making any decent money. Considering how much time it takes to run a successful blog, the return is hardly worth it.
