unknown tv tuner card

I recently recieved an unknown PCI tv tuner card. When I plug it in and boot to windows, windows identifies it as a video device, but can't find drivers for it.

Any recommendations for how to identify it, how to get drivers, and what software I can use for TIVO type uses?

Is most of the software out there dependent on a particular hardware configuration?

As a note, this card is probably 2 years old already -- is it worth getting a new one?

you might be able to find drivers for another tvtuner that uses the same chipset. This uses the bt878 which is fairly commom. It looks like the same tuner (philips) and chipset (bt878) as the ATI TV Wonder which I have. I think the picture looks fine on my monitor even in fullscreen.

Is that win 95/98 driver likely to work in XP?

What is STB systems... I've never heard of it. They're pretty reputable?

I never heard of them either, but when you search for stb tv card and you find results...and stb is written on the board(pcb) you think ahhaa..its an stb tv card....
but I don't know if its any good. This guy is looking for drivers....

Good luck with that. It is STB, 3dfx bought them and we all know what happened to them. Your best shot is to find drivers for the chipset on it, like win32asmguy suggested.

Is this the same thing as a Voodoo TV? 3dfx could have just renamed the tv tuner card line from STB, you can find voodoo tv drivers around at voodoofiles, but i dont know if it is the same card or not.

OK, i've got the btwincap drivers installed, but I don't have any software to see if they work. Can anyone recommend some TV viewing/recording software that works wtih generic hardware?

Someone pointed me to snapstream, but I coudln't get it to work in 25 minutes or so of messing with it... any other recommendations?

sorry for a late reply here, but btwincap has a rudimentary capture app lets you view/record with your card.. its the wdmmiscutils on the same site I linked before. It takes a bit getting used to (they use some cryptic names for each input your card has, and quite a few options for tuning the picture type/quality) but it does work.

Thanks for the tips everyone, but it seems the btwincap doesn't work with this card. It installs and is recognized, but only for the S-video and composite inputs. The TV tuner is as though it weren't even there.

I found another driver (thanks gvayl!) that *seems* to recognize everything properly, but I haven't actually gotten it to work yet. For reference, it's linked at http://www.driverfiles.net/Video-Adapte...4/download/page,show,19610,182,5,.html

Anyway, so that installs -- but I havne't yet gotten it to work. SageTV kept crashing. Can anyone recommend good Tivo-like software that supports pretty much everything? Any suggestions?

I'm still stuck with this.... I can't get it to work with any combination of SageTV, windows movie maker (yeah yeah, i know -- just trying to test it), or either of the two drivers I found (including btwincap).

Any suggestions? or am I just better off buying a new card? and if so -- which one?
