unknown service

So I was going in to stop some ipod service from running(I don't even own an ipod), and noticed a new service in there that I didn't recognize. tensonwtd... anyone seen it before? Google was empty.

Symantec free online virus-detection thingamabob (use IE, since it's ActiveX-based). Give that a whirl and if it detects something, get screenshots or else note it down precisely. Microsoft's Antispyware beta and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal might be good ideas too, since adware/spyware may register itself as a service nowdays.

Run Symantec's Security Scan while you're at it. I still remember your "firewalls-aren't-necessary" thread where you said
Like I said, I don't use protective software like AVs and firewalls because I never get attacked
so I'm assuming you have no firewall or antivirus software still?

Everything is clean, I just assumed it was some random bloat that came with something installed. A lot of software comes with useless services.

The simplest way to sort through running services is perhaps ctrl+alt+delete to display running services and just do a google search of the service names. Sites such as LIUtilites are excellent resources for identifying the processes and qualifying them as essential, non-essential or suspect.

Once you've familiarized yourself with what services are normal, it's a snap to quickly spot potential problems simply by noting number of processes running and what normal process isn't running and/or what new process is running.

Hope this helps!
