Unknown illness, any ideas?

symtoms: trouble breathing, hives, rashes

i thought it perfectly fit the description of a serious allergy of some sort, but the docotrs can't even diagnose what it is...
I don't have enough info on my own to WebMD it, and if a doctor can't diagnose it why try?

pic
the rash is on her arms, chest, neck, face, and a few on her legs.

any idea what it might be? and please be seriuos and as helpful as possible.

edit:
Shes been like this since last week. Shes about 10 years old, turning 11, has never had anything like this before, except one incident about a year ago when she had a hard time breathing but there was no apparent rash.

hrmmm

I'll ask my brother in med school to take a look when he gets online. I am NO doctor but it sounds liek allergies to me..like hardcore...but again i have nothing to back that up with. How long has it been gonig on?

Sure sounds like allergies, but then again I'm not a doctor. Speaking of which, go to another doctor...

Did he/she give any indication of what it might be? Or just send your sister home with nothing?

What do you mean doctors can't diagnose it? Did they check for allergies? If so what are the test results and which allergies did they test. If they ruled out allergies, based on what criteria?

Chicken Pox or an alergic reaction to something.
I hope the doctor gave her some sort of general antihistamine until they can figure out what is causing it.

How the hell can doctors not be able to diagnose it? That ain't normal and it looks pretty bad. You better make them do something.

Indeed, trouble breathing worries me, means that these hives might be internal as well.

my sis already had chicken pox. Doctor also ruled out the chicken pox and I dunno whether they checked for allergies or not... he just said that he doesn't know and isn't sure.
(i wasn't there)
and my sister just looked at me with a cute face and said, "The doctor guy said big words that I dunno."

bite marks are apparent in that picture but the one of my sister shows no bite marks and also how would that attribute to heavy breathing?

It could be an allergic reaction to the bites.

Has she tried any antihistamines? It may help.

I'm really allergic to these kinds of things (mosquito bites, dogs, cats, etc.) and Zyrtec along with Flonase works for me.

Mind you, I am not a doctor so take it with a grain of salt. 😀

Does she have a cat and may have possibly been recently scratched? It could be complications from cat scratch fever or cat scratch disease. Does she have any swollen lymph nodes? For immediate relief from the rash she could take over the counter antihistamines. If necessary cortisone additionaly. If she is running a mild fever antibiotics should take care of that. Any swollen lymph nodes can be treated with a hot compress. I suggest this because cat scratch fever and/or disease are very hard to diagnose and usually require the patient divulging that they had been scratched by a cat.

Could be an allergic reaction to the chigger bites, but if they were chigger bites, she would not be able to stop scratching them long enough to take that pic. (I have known the chigger (red bug) bite many times)

I had one of those rashes before. I went to a really dirty bowling alley. The carpet was reek of smoke. I went home and my whole body was full of rashes like the one your sister has. But I didn't have trouble breathing so I didn't go see doctor.

Why don't you go find a competent doctor? I think any doctor that cares would at least do something to remedy the situation then just sending your sister back home.

WTF, he just said that he doesn't know and isn't sure, so he's not going to do anything about it? You sure that's what he did? He needs to be sent back to med school. How old is your sister? Was there anyone there? I think you should call the doctor and/or get a second opinion. Unless he can tell you that he ruled out allergies and other life-threatening problems, I don't see how he can send your sis home just like that.

Since he doesn't know what it is and isn't sure, I'd say you need to get a second opinion. If he isn't sure about anything, then how does he know it isn't a potentially serious allergy that may result in anaphylaxis(A sudden and severe allergic reaction, potentially fatal) during some unexpected moment?

something doesn't make sense. you didn't go with her. so who did?

10 year olds don't go to the doctor on their own.

He said "big words" she don't understand then probably he told an adult what it is.

Mom went with her. My mom doesn't understand english as well as i would like her to, but I wasn't there. She just told me that the doctor doesn't know. They're going again tomorrow for a follow-up. Hopefulyl something will turn up

It would be nice to know what the reason for a rash is, but the cause of a rash can be unknown in around half the cases (even after trying to determine what the reason could be by going through the person's history and running tests), so it isn't unheard of to not know the reason for a rash.

jEct2, I hope your sister gets better soon, and that they are able to figure out what's causing her rash
