i've posted this before so i'll try again...

i have an IWILL KK266 (non raid / non plus) ... original back from feb of 2001 :)

so i've tried updating the bios so that maybe i can use an xp processor

every time i try updating it gives me this unknown flash type...

it says to type in the filename of the new bios and i type in KK1022.BIN (this is the correct file for the most recent bios)...

then it says back up old one? and i type BACKUP.BIN...

then continue... and i hit 'Y' for yes....

it looks like it's about to flash then it stops with an error that says "Unknown flashtype" or something like that...

any suggestions or ideas?

No ideas..but I was experiencing this on a ABIT KR7A-RAID board also. Never did get it fixed. Always showed a unknown flash error no matter what I tried doing. Worked fine though, just couldnt update it. They once sent me a new bios chip also....that one produced the same problem. So I guess the problem would be in the board then in my case, and maybe your case too?

Know this doesnt really help, but Im in the same boat as you. I am no longer using the abit board but Id like to know how to fix it if I can.

How are you flashing it? You have to create a ms-dos start up disk. I tried using safe mode command prompt but that won't work. Just go to my computer right click the floppy drive. Select format and create an ms-dos start up disk. After that my bios flash worked. I was flashing my vid card bios.

you can also delete (or rename) your autoexec.bat and config.sys on your floppy. Boot totally blank

Do not chose to back up the 'old' BIOS, since you don't need a backup, you can download any version from Iwill. Like one poster already asked, HOW are you creating your DOS environment? From a boot diskette? By selecting "Safe Mode Command Prompt?" from the boot menu?

Use the following command line (copy/paste into autoexec.bat on your boot diskette if you want):

awdflash kk1022.bin /py/sn/cp/cd/cc

Use the explorer option to "show all files" including hidden and system files, delete every file from the boot diskette except the following three:

COMMAND.COM
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS

Those are the only three files necessary to flash, then move your flash files to the diskette. Try again but use the command line I recommended.
