when i turn on my computer it says "unkown cpu at 2090 mhz" and 3dmarks sees my barton as a duron.... whats the deal?

3d mark does that with all xp cpus. the bios need to be updated .

is this with the a7n8x? some mobo manufacturers have a windows utility that makes it cake to flash the bios.

yes. but u got a small chance of it! Just say if your power goes out while your flashing youz rz fuc|>z0rs! or if u pc was to freeze up or something like that youz rz fuc|>z0rs!. If the download copy of the bios was coupprtt youz rz fuc|>z0rs!.

If you have a Asus board you can try the "live update" where it updates in windows. but if windows freeze youz rz fuc|>z0rs!

Had the same prob.with my M7VIF..flashed the bios with the latest flash from bioStar and now everythings fine..my xp2400+ is now recognized...............😀
