unknown bottleneck

first of all, a quick question: is there a big diff btwn agp 2x and 4x?

secondly, max payne runs ok, but definitely NOT very smoothly, especially in fight scenes. which of the following system components is hurting performance the most?

P3-500 SlotI CPU
ASUS P2B mobo (only supports 2x agp)
640MB SDRAM (256+256+128)
Hercules KyroII 64MB (chip supports 4x agp but i hear the card only does 2x)
SoundBlaster AWE64 (ISA hehe)

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Hmm, I am running a P3-500 with 256 ram on a generic BX motherboard. Have a geforce 256 DDR that only runs 2xagp because of the mainboard and max runs great. You didn't mention if it was a 5400 or 7200 rpm drive, which I don't know would make a difference, but the setup is close so I don't know why it would be slower.

the drive that my Windows2000 sits on is 7200rpm ata100, but the drive that the game is installed on is 5400rpm. i don't see why it would make a difference, when i play the game it's not like the hard drive is constantly working.
