Just a general invitation, specifically meant for the users of UNIX compatible OSes to check out eccp109, or any of the other distributed fun. Check out the Distributed Computing forum for links. Its a good way to keep that cpu from becoming idle. And you have high userloads to show off! Why buy an AthlonXP 1900+ if it will only be used 3 hours per day, and even then, not at its full potential? My machines are at about 100% 24/7. *I* am getting my money's worth ;)

Anyhow, OpenBSD users interrested in eccp, drop me a pm or ask in one of the threads in DC forum. Most of the clients crash on that system, but I may have found a stable one (not done testing it out though). :)

I know some of you guys are scared of you computers, but its really not that hard. Just add a little line to the rc.local, or add a small script into rc2.d or whatever and you are set. The thing runs in the background (with a nice of ~19 you wont notice anything). All you will have to do is tell it to dump automatically. With DSL or cable it becomes easier and it will automatically dump for you! Ive got it running on most of my machines right now (will be adding the p133 in a moment), and if I can do it anyone can!

I was thinking this would be a good thing to participate in...

Only, I'm really just a newbie who still thinks my sig is actually clever.

I downloaded the non-x86 tar file because I'm on a power PC, not an intel box and I figured THAT much out.

I'm running OS X.1 with the mac file system, not the ufs.

a) Can I run this at all?

b) If so, what do I do?

It will probably run, but you would have to compile it... PPC processors are supposed to be VERY good at ogr. Check out distributed.net for more information on that one.

In case anyone has already started eccP, here is a link for *FASTER* clients! Link!

Download and install them and you should see an increase in production.

Fatt, sorry if it seemed like I was just blowing you off there. But I really dont know about eccp on PPC. It should probably work, just SLOWLY. OGR seems to be a much better project for PPC processors and I plan on putting my next mac on that.

It's cool.

You know...
I've been thinking about going to Yellow Dog anyway...

I mean, a 300mhz G3 just seems to work to hard in 10.1...

I like 10.1, don't get me wrong... I espescially like Omnibrowser, with it's "open new window behind this one" feature...

I just hate how slow my PB has gotten and I'm thinking...
I want to get better with Linux anyway...

Just a thought... Dunno if I'll do it.

With a nice of 19 it wont affect much at all. How much work does your system really do? Im running seti on my desktop at a nice arond -10 and it is a little slower but I deal.
